Between music and medicine – El Diario de Coahuila

Music and medicine are the great passions of Marissa Barraza Iglesias, who in the future sees himself combining both professions, because both contribute to the well-being of people; music is related to emotional intelligence, it generates feelings and sensations that help individuals, and medicine improves people’s health.

Marissa, graduated from the Universidad del Valle de México (UVM), Campus Saltillo as a doctor, currently works at clinic 2 of the IMSS and is also part of the group, “Los Golden Groove”.

“I am super committed to both things, they tell me ‘we have an event at such and such a time’ and I leave the hospital, go home, change super quickly and start singing”.

Remember that 2020 had a difficult stage in both races. “It was quite difficult, I finished my degree when the pandemic started and at that time I went to Chihuahua with the Secretary of National Defense (SEDENA), they contacted me and I decided to go help people through the red light, I was there for approximately six months , I spoke with my groupmates and explained my reasons, they respected my decision and what we did all that time was start composing songs; It was a difficult stage, but hey, everything leaves you teaching and experience”.

THE BEGINNING

From the age of 8, Marissa, originally from Piedras Negras, Coahuila, discovered that singing was her thing, she liked to participate in festivals and even assures that even though she was a girl, singing de-stressed her, but it was until she was 14 years old that people close to her made her aware of the talent he possessed in the voice.

“They told me ‘your voice color is great, you should exploit it’. I remember that I had an unfortunate event, I forgot the lyrics of a song, I was so nervous! For that reason I gave up singing a bit, I thought ‘maybe I’m not good at this’, although I still sang at gatherings with friends” .

The young woman, 26 years old, moved to Saltillo at the age of 15, later she was able to contact a person who motivated her to continue in music. “I never took singing classes, let’s say I had the gift and to date, I have not taken classes, I don’t have that technique that other people have, I greatly respect those who educate their voice, it would be excellent if I had the technique, because in order to accounts thanks to that you do not risk having a long-term complication of your vocal cords “.

DOESN’T LOOK LIKE A SOLOIST

“Los Golden Groove” is a group with a funky and pop style, they currently work in some bars in our city and at private events, and they will even soon record their first singles, “Feeling” and “Summer Love”, two unreleased songs in English, where Marissa has collaborated on the lyrics.

“Since I was little, music was something super important to me and it is today. I feel that if we do well in the group, I would give music a little more priority, but without giving up medicine, because they are two halves of me.”

In the future, he does not see himself as a soloist, since he wishes to remain in the group. “At that time of the pandemic I thought that my colleagues were going to say ‘bye’ to me, but no, they waited for me, and they understood me… then it would be very cool to leave the group, a large part of my heart and my mind is always with them ” .
