In the corporate world, progress is being made in the recognition that employees with healthy habits and optimal well-being conditions contribute value and productivity to the organization, in a clear win-win equation.

In fact, in the areas of human talent there has been an increase in talent attraction and retention policies and specialized plans so that employees can balance their personal and work lives.

One of those tools is Betterfly, a personalized protection platform with benefits and social impact to which companies subscribe to manage and deliver flexible benefits to their teams. Users can access products and services, such as telemedicine, online training and innovative insurance, among others. Plus, the more they use the app, the more social donations they can make.

This company is considered the insurtech with the highest valuation in Latin America and the first social unicorn in the region, whose objective is to impact the lives of 300 million people.

The company Betterfly created an index that evaluates these healthy habits and the level of donations in more than 3,000 companies that have between 30 and 5,000 employees from 6 Latin American countries, including Colombia, Peru, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico and Brazil. Companies have made more than seven million social donations and 50 million positive actions.

From SMEs to large corporations, they take into account healthy habits such as walking, sleeping or meditating, along with social donations made through the platform, which they call Positive Actions (PA).

The score is calculated from each user’s daily logs on the Betterfly platform.
For each activity there are ranges that determine the number of Positive Actions.

For example, if a user walks less than 4,000 steps they do not receive a score; if he walks between 4,000 and 7,999, he receives 1 AP; and if he walks more than 8,000, which is recommended by the WHO per day, he receives 2 AP. From that, the amount of PA that each collaborator collected from January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2023 is added.

While the well-being activities of collaborators on the platform are seen as the way to generate internal impact for the company, social contributions are a reflection of the organization’s intention to generate a positive external impact.

Among the large Latin American corporations that participate in the study, first place is achieved by the Colombian Conaltura. Another 10 companies that operate in Colombia stand out. In the large ones, Mapfre Seguros is in fourth place, Fanalca is in position 17, Altipal is in position 48 and Automundial is in position 50.

For its part, among the medium-sized companies that are in the ranking are Hanna Instruments, in second position in the study at the Latin American level.

They follow Click Clack Hotel in seventh, Puntos Colombia, in 26th place; On Vacation in 70; Kiwi Campus SA in 76th and Calier in 94th place.

The study draws attention to the fact that Conaltura, Mapfre Seguros and Hanna Instruments stand out with their contributions to NGOs such as Soy Doy, Manos Pintadas de Azul and Enseña por Colombia.

According to the BetterCompanies study, of the 20 companies that lead the ranking in Latin America, those who exercise increased their weekly training minutes by almost 40%. For their part, in this group those who meditate increased their weekly meditation minutes by 26%. Likewise, they increased their monthly donations by 36%.

“Today companies play a fundamental role in the prevention of diseases and the well-being of their teams. For this reason, initiatives that encourage their teams to be more active and work on a better version of themselves are so well received by employees,” explains Lina Vanegas, Head of Marketing at Betterfly.

“We study the impact from a perspective that encompasses prevention, with healthy habits, protection with insurance and coverage that users can increase day by day, and social purpose, giving them the possibility of making more than 116,332 donations to social causes ”explains Vanegas.

“Through this index and the use of the platform we have shown that small incentives, healthy competition and gamification generate motivations and changes in daily life like a domino effect.”
