“Ius Scholae and Ius Soli are not points of arrival, at most they can be passages. What really matters is a battle by all to affirm real equality”. Ilaria Salis, the newly elected MEP, has the solution to overcome the controversy, which in recent days, has been causing discussion among the various coalitions: that is, abolishing citizenship. The Ius Scholae, invoked by Forza Italia and the 5 Star Movement, “which scandalizes the worst right-wingers”, in her opinion, is an “insufficient reform and even risks introducing other discriminations, not taking into account for example school dropouts”. The Ius Soli, on the other hand, she considers it “a concrete reality not on the island of utopia, but even in the United States of America”. Despite this, for the champion of employment, it would be “too little”. This is why, for the activist, who became famous for her imprisonment in Orban’s Hungary, politics is dealing with palliative care and not with medicine for the disease, capable of guaranteeing the resolution of the problem itself.
Salis, through Instagram, talks about her experience before ending up in the prisons of Budapest and therefore about her knowledge of a subject, on which approximation would prevail: «When I worked as a teacher I had almost entire classes of children who periodically had to leave to go to the police station to renew their residence permit. Do you realize? A six-year-old child forced to go to the police station, often at dawn, and get in line to receive the absurd concession of being able to stay in the country where he lives or where maybe he was even born. This in addition to all the other discriminations that they are forced to suffer even at a young age». Ilaria Salis, to better clarify the concept, posted a photo of some migrants in Milan: «It happened on several occasions that some families of asylum seekers were even charged with truncheons and tear gas by the police while they were, in the middle of winter, queuing in the cold and dark for documents».
