The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will be the next generation of Qualcomm’s top-of-the-line cell phone platform, and although the manufacturer is reserving details for its launch on October 24, several leaks have ended up revealing specifications of the chip that will compete with the Apple A17 Pro and MediaTek Dimensity 9300.
On Monday (25), a benchmark test carried out on Geekbench 6.2 reveals the supposed score of the Adreno 750 GPU of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Also known by its codename “Pineapple”, the platform achieved an incredible score of 15,434 in Vulkan APIwhich suggests a performance jump of around 59% compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
To compare, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra only scored 9,524 points in the same test with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy’s Adreno 740 GPU. Another cell phone that has an overclocked processor variant, the Nubia Z50S Pro, manages to surpass the 10,000 points mark, but is still far from the 15,000 mark of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
This might mean that the Adreno 750 GPU will be the most powerful on the market, however, it is necessary to interpret the benchmark with skepticism, as there are no details regarding the conditions under which the hardware was tested. Furthermore, only one test was performed, so we don’t know if this performance is consistent.
It is not yet possible to compare the performance of the Adreno 750 with the Apple A17 Pro’s GPU, as these platforms support different APIs. More realistic comparisons in games, video rendering and other tasks can only be made with the launch of the first cell phones equipped with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
New rumors indicate that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will have a new 1+3+2+2 designthat is, a 3.3 GHz Cortex-X4 “super core”, three high-performance cores from the Cortex-A7 line clocked at 3.15 GHz, two high-performance cores from the Cortex-A7 line clocked at 2 .96 GHz and two low-power cores clocked at 2.27 GHz.
