Apple has just lifted the veil on its new AirPods 2, its wireless headphones. They get even smarter with better audio quality.
Apple unveils during its keynote the new AirPods Pro 2. A major update to First generation AirPods Pro.
The AirPods Pro 2 still feature Active Noise Cancellation (Active Isolation), but it’s been vastly improved. Indeed, the apple brand announces a noise reduction twice as efficient. The “transparency” mode allowing you to continue listening to what is happening next to you while wearing the headphones has also been updated.
This mode is now adaptive, allowing you to filter out deafening noises (like a jackhammer) but letting other noises through (like discussions).
Spatialized audio is still there, but this time personalized. Indeed, it will now be possible to use the iPhone camera to improve spatialization. Passive isolation is also improved, with more tips: four in total (L, M, S and XS). A mode to boost voices is also included.
The hardware part has also been completely revised, in particular with the integration of the H2 chip which improves sound quality and bandwidth. The loudspeaker is unique, as is the amplifier. The sound should therefore be better than on the classic AirPods Pro. With SharePlay, the frequency is now 48 kHz. The AirPods Pro 2 use Bluetooth version 5.3.
The other great novelty is the arrival of the touch control on the sides of the headphones, as a touch control. This allows you to slide your finger to reduce or increase the volume of the sound. The first-generation AirPods Pro don’t offer this capability, and it’s only possible to tap to pause.
Apple AirPods Pro 2: price and availability
Autonomy has also been improved, with 6 hours continuously and up to 30 hours by recharging the case. In total, it’s 6 hours more than with the previous generation. The case also evolves by now integrating a loudspeaker. This allows you to emit a sound if you are looking for it. And the U1 chip in the case can also help you find your headphones by telling you the distance and direction.
Finally, it is possible to recharge the earphone case directly with the Apple Watch charger, but also with a Lightning cable, a MagSafe or Qi charger. It is also possible to attach a wrist strap to the case to carry the case more comfortably. Both the headphones and the case are IPX4 certified for water and dust resistance.
The Apple AirPods Pro 2 will be available to order from September 9 for 299 euros with deliveries starting on September 23.
