Redmi 12

We start our list with the Redmi 12. Despite being the most basic from Xiaomi in our guide, it features a cool design with a glass finish, which is rare for the segment when many mid-range cell phones have a plastic body. It can be found in retail for around R$900.

The big highlight of the Redmi 12 is its large 6.79-inch screen, the largest of the models on our list. It’s an LCD panel with a 90Hz refresh rate for good fluidity and decent brightness. Only the sound part might be better with stereo sound to deliver a superior multimedia experience.

The Redmi 12 is equipped with MediaTek’s Helio G88 and has 4 GB of RAM in its most basic version. Don’t expect to see Xiaomi’s entry-level cell phone hold many apps open at the same time, while in heavier games you will have to leave several graphics resources disabled. The battery lasts well and yielded 23 hours of moderate use in our tests, while its cameras take decent photos.

Redmi Note 12S

Moving up the hierarchy of Xiaomi cell phones a little, we have a model that has a foot in the mid-range segment, but costs the same as many entry-level cell phones. The Redmi Note 12S can be found for around R$1,200 and brings several improvements compared to the Redmi 12.

Its design is more in line with the brand’s more expensive models. The screen is smaller at 6.43 inches and also has a refresh rate of 90 Hz, but here there is an AMOLED panel with higher brightness, better colors and a wider viewing angle. In this we have stereo sound with a good balance between bass, mids and treble.

The performance is due to the Helio G96 and in the version with 8 GB of RAM that we tested we had much better multitasking performance than the Redmi 12, but it is worth remembering that the most basic one comes with 6 GB and can be a little slower with many apps open at the same time. Its battery lasts much longer, reaching 30 hours of moderate use, in addition to recharging faster. The cameras take better photos and videos than the basic Xiaomi.

Redmi Note 12S Compare

Poco X5

Leaving Redmi a little and entering Poco’s intermediaries, we have the X5 as an affordable model that we tested in 2023 and offers an interesting configuration for the currently charged price of R$1,300.

The first difference between the X5 and the Note 12S is its 5G connectivity. It features a larger 6.67-inch screen and 120 Hz AMOLED panel for superior fluidity, as well as a touch sensor that responds at 240 Hz, which improves response in games. Although Xiaomi took care of the screen, it ended up limiting the sound to mono, which is a little disappointing.

Here we have the Snapdragon 695 for agile multitasking performance even in the most basic version with 6 GB of RAM. Its gaming performance is good and you will be able to enjoy even the heaviest games with high graphics and activated extras. The battery yields more than 31 hours of moderate use in our tests, while the cameras are nice, but nothing more than what we have on the Redmi Note 12S.

Poco X5 Pro

Although the Poco X5 runs all games well, if you are looking for a device capable of running heavy games at high settings with everything activated, then the Poco It can currently be found on the market for around R$1,600.

The Pro version has the same screen size as the Poco streaming. Not to mention that the sound part solves the flaw of the other model and in this one we have high quality stereo sound with Dolby Atmos.

Performance is due to the Snapdragon 778G combined with up to 8 GB of RAM. It did as well in our multitasking test as the Poco X5, but the battery yields a little less, although it still lasts a long time. The good news is that the recharging time is faster, which ends up paying off. The photographic set records better photos and the camcorder is capable of recording 4K videos.

Redmi Note 12 Pro

Xiaomi has several intermediary options for fans of the brand and in the same price range we have the Redmi Note 12 Pro. The two have a lot in common with small differences in hardware and photographic set.

Of course, the design changes between the two lines and if you don’t like that giant Poco logo stamped on the back of the X5 Pro, then you’ll like the cleaner look of the Note 12 Pro. The screen is the same in size and technologies, as well as it also has a 240 Hz touch sensor for better response time in games. The stereo sound has good power and high quality with Dolby Atmos support.

The first change is in the adopted chipset: here we have the Dimensity 1080 and versions with up to 12 GB of RAM. What we tested was a little slower in multitasking compared to the Poco X5 Pro and in heavier games you have to give up some graphics resources, but the battery performs better and recharges quickly. Despite the camera having a lower resolution sensor, the Redmi Note 12 Pro is still capable of taking good photos and videos.

Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus

And as if that weren’t enough, Xiaomi also launched a Plus version of the Redmi Note 12 Pro. What changes for the lower model? Here you have a cell phone with a more advanced sensor and that comes with an ultra-powerful charger in the box. Of course, for this you have to pay more and currently the Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus is being found for around R$2,200.

The screen is the same as the other model and includes a 6.67-inch AMOLED panel with Full HD+ resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate. The maximum brightness level is very good and there is also support for HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. The sound is also on par with the other model with excellent quality stereo audio with Dolby Atmos.

Despite having the same Dimensity 1080 chipset with a similar amount of RAM, performance was superior in our multitasking test. The battery lasts less, despite being the same size, which shows that its software is more optimized to deliver superior performance. The good news is that the 120W charger fills the battery in less than 25 minutes, making it the quickest on our list.

The photographic set consists of a 200 MP camera to capture clearer photos, especially if you shoot with the 50 MP option, which has less compression. The rest of the set is similar to the other and delivers similar photographic quality.

Bit F5

Now moving on to Poco’s premium midrange line, we have the F5. It can be found in the same price range as the Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus and with that the question arises: which one to buy?

The Poco has a more modern look without that prominent block for the cameras. It comes with the same screen size with similar resolution and refresh rate as Redmi, but here we have a more advanced panel with higher brightness that displays many more color tones. The sound is more powerful and also guarantees great sound quality. Performance is more agile thanks to the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2 combined with up to 12 GB of RAM. Despite the powerful GPU, it doesn’t run everything at maximum as we have in more advanced models.

The Poco F5’s battery delivers the best autonomy of the models on our list and the recharging time is quick. The photographic part is not as advanced as the Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus and here we have a simpler 64 MP sensor. Still, it is capable of recording good photos and videos.

Poco F5 Pro

Moving up the Poco line we have the F5 Pro, a turbocharged version of the traditional model that comes with a more powerful processor and more advanced camcorder. It is currently found in the range of R$3,200. Is it worth the difference?

The Poco F5 Pro comes with a 6.67-inch screen with Quad HD+ resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate. The panel adopted is an AMOLED with higher brightness than the traditional F5 and also reproduces a greater variety of color tones than others on the segment. The sound is stereo and of good quality, but for the price range it might be more powerful.

At least the performance is compensated with the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1, which delivers faster speeds than the cheapest model in the line and runs all games at maximum quality with all extras activated. The battery lasts a long time and exceeded 31 hours in our test, while the recharge time is less than 1 hour. The photographic set is the same as the Poco F5, but as it has more powerful hardware, the quality of photos and videos is better. It also has the advantage of being able to film in 8K.

Xiaomi 13

We reach Xiaomi’s most advanced line and here we don’t have a cell phone from the Redmi or Poco subsidiaries, but from the Chinese manufacturer itself. The Xiaomi 13 is the most basic in the line if we consider that the 13 Lite is more of an intermediate cell phone. Therefore, if you want the best of the brand you will have to pay more than R$5,000 for it.

Here you won’t have a cell phone with a plastic structure, but rather a device with a metal body and glass with a neat finish. Furthermore, while Xiaomi’s intermediaries only provide protection once morest splashes, this one has IP68 certification for resistance once morest water and dust.

The screen may be small by standard, but it is attractive for those who enjoy compact cell phones. We have 6.36 inches with Full HD+ resolution and a rate of 120 Hz. The highlight is the stronger brightness that guarantees superior visibility on sunny days. The sound is more powerful compared to the Poco F5 Pro and we have great sound quality.

The Xiaomi 13 is equipped with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, a very powerful piece of hardware, but it didn’t impress in our tests due to a lack of software optimization, something that can be fixed with updates. At least the battery performs well and the cameras present a big leap in photographic quality compared to the others mentioned.

Xiaomi 13 Pro

Closing our top 10 we have the Xiaomi 13 Pro, the turbocharged version that comes with a different finish, superior screen, larger battery with more powerful charging, as well as an advanced camera set. If you want to have this powerful Xiaomi cell phone, then you will have to pay almost R$8,000 for it.

The Xiaomi 13 Pro has a body with a ceramic back and front glass that is more resistant to scratches and impacts. The screen is larger at 6.73 inches, as well as the higher Quad HD+ resolution. The 120 Hz refresh rate and support for HDR10+ and Dolby Vision are the same as the other model. The sound guarantees a great experience with movies and games.

The hardware is made up of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 combined with up to 12 GB of RAM. Xiaomi put more care into the 13 Pro’s software and here we have the most agile cell phone on our list. The battery, however, performed less in our tests even though it was larger. At least the powerful charger recovers its full charge in less than 30 minutes. The photographic set is the best on our list and features quality optical zoom with superior ultra-wide.

We listed everything from basic models for those looking for a simple cell phone for use with popular apps such as messaging, browsing or YouTube videos, to more advanced ones for those looking for high-end performance and great cameras.

Xiaomi officially sells some of the models mentioned in our list in Brazil, but they cost much more than the prices found on the TudoCelular platform. If you don’t mind having the local warranty, then you can save money by getting the imported version.
