Best way to lose weight is to reduce calories

One of the most famous diets in the world, intermittent fasting is highly sought after by those looking to lose weight. The idea is to spend a long period without eating and eat moderately in a predefined window of time to encourage the body to spend more calories.

However, a study published in the Journal of the American Heart Association found that meal times are irrelevant to the amount of weight a person loses over time. The key to weight loss would be to opt for smaller amounts of food with less calories, no matter the time of day.

The survey was carried out by a research team from Johns Hopkins University, in the United States.

The study involved 550 adults, with a mean age of 51 years, with at least higher education, and mostly female. Of the participants, 240 were obese, 169 were overweight, and 138 were at a healthy weight.

The researchers used the Daily24 app, in which participants recorded their sleeping and eating activities every day for a week each month for six months. Through the app, researchers analyzed how many calories a person ate per day and how long it took between each meal.

Scientists noted that calorie counting was the only important factor when it comes to weight loss. Long periods between meals, according to the research, did not affect the weight loss of the participants.
