Indonesia’s Car Storey: Who’s Hot and Who’s Not

Jakarta – So, folks, it seems that the Toyota Kijang Innova is still the undisputed heavyweight champion of the roads in Indonesia, even in the exhilarating chaos of October 2024! And what’s this? Our dear friend BYD M6 has snuck into the top 10 best-selling cars! Surprise, surprise! Perhaps it brewed its own electric coffee to wake up the competition. ☕️🚗

Sales Figures Are in – Let’s Break it Down!

Now, let’s talk about those sales. The Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) reports that in October, we weren’t just selling cars; we were selling dreams on wheels, with wholesale figures reaching a whopping 77,191 units. That’s an increase of about 6.2% compared to the previous month! If only my bank account saw those kinds of increases, eh?

And don’t think retail sales were lagging behind, no sir! We climbed from September’s count of 72,337 units to a lovely 73,443 in October. We’re really revving up, aren’t we? You might say the car sales are cruising at ‘fast and furious’ speed, minus the questionable acting.

Top Models – The Who’s Who of Wheels!

With Kijang Innova stubbornly stuck in first place, it’s clear it’s quite the loyal steed—5,693 units galloped out of the showroom. Close behind, waving its little Toyota flag, is the Avanza, barely trailing with 5,611 units. The competition must be sweating buckets at this point!

And what’s this? The Honda Brio, typical of everyone’s friendly neighbor, slipped into third with 4,384 units. Honestly, it’s like watching a family cook-off, and everyone’s grabbing for the last slice of pie! 🍰

Moving on to the crucial insights…. Fourth place is taken by the Daihatsu Gran Max pick-up with 4,212 units, and in fifth, the outgoing Daihatsu Sigra with 4,092 units. That’s a lot of numbers flying around like confetti at a wedding—I just hope nobody gets a paper cut!

The Star of the Show: BYD M6

Now, here comes the plot twist! Enter the BYD M6, rolling into the tenth spot like it owns the place with 1,866 units sold. Last month, electric cars were about as absent in the top 20 as decent sitcoms on TV, and now they’re pushing others down like it’s a dramatic soap opera. Honestly, by the looks of it, BYD might as well have a disco ball in its trunk! 💃

In a stunning twist, the BYD M6 even managed to nudge out the Honda HR-V, who’s now lounging in the 11th position—talk about a plot twist worthy of a Hollywood script!

Here’s the Full Line-Up:

  • 1. Toyota Kijang Innova (Reborn and Zenix): 5,693 units

Wrap Up – The Gear Is Shifting!

As we zoom through October, it’s clear the automotive world in Indonesia is not just flapping in the wind—it’s racing at full throttle! As for the brands, let’s hope they’re all ready for the ride ahead. Because remember, in the game of cars, it’s not really about finishing first; it’s about being electric—quite literally!

So, raise your cups (or mugs) to the automakers, and may their brakes work as well as their sales numbers. Until next time, keep your engines revving and your seats warm! 🍹🚗
