In addition to Mitchell, wicketkeeper-batsman Tom Blunt (106 off 198 balls) also scored a century. The duo combined for the fifth wicket to put New Zealand ahead by 400 runs. Blundell was handed over to Ben Stokes and Jack Leach broke the tie. Skipper Tom Latham (26), Will Young (47), Devon Conway (46) and Henry Nichols (30) were out. For England, James Anderson and Ben Stokes took two wickets each and Jack Leach one.
