RENDY Varera Sanjaya won the main elite men’s class in the second series of the 76 Indonesian Downhill 2024 bicycle racing championship at Ternadi Bike Park, Kudus Regency, Central Java, Sunday.

The Dayu Racing Team racer recorded a time of 4 minutes 03.309 seconds or 7 seconds ahead of Azhar Shalman Alparishi from One Bike Team who finished second in the final run.

D-One Factory Agung Prio Apriliano took third place with a time of 04.11.531, while Hildan Afosma Katana from Spartan Racing Team and FX Elneno Christian from Polair DH Team finished fourth and fifth.

“I am grateful that I was still able to be the fastest, considering that the track was wet after the rain, so it was very different from the seeding run session where the track was quite dry,” said Rendy after presenting the medal at Ternadi Bike Park, Dawe District, Kudus Regency.

Rendy, who is also the champion in 2023, said he saw the condition of the track via video streaming.

“Hopefully in the future we can maintain our good performance in the last series and become the overall national champion this year,” he said.

The athlete from Kediri admitted that the Ternadi Bike Park track was very challenging with a height of 1,100 meters above sea level (asl) at the starting point and 600 meters above sea level at the finish line.

This victory earned Rendy an additional 300 points to overtake Andy Prayoga as the leader in standing points in the Men Elite category with a total of 390 points.

For elite women, Milatul Khaqimah from the Sego Anget Racing Team became champion after recording a time of 4 minutes 45.091 seconds.

Agnes C Wuisan from 76Rider appreciated the enthusiasm and unyielding spirit shown by all the 76 Indonesian Downhill 2024 riders.

“The second series at Ternadi Bike Park this year was extraordinarily challenging. It forced the downhillers to bring out their maximum skills and performance. Even though there was rain, it didn’t reduce their determination to remain competitive and be the best,” he said.

After the second series at Ternadi Bike Park, 76 Indonesian Downhill will complete its final round at Klemuk Bike Park, Batu, East Java on 8-10 November 2024. (Ant/Z-6)

Interview with Rendy Varera Sanjaya: Champion of the Indonesian Downhill 2024

Editor: Congratulations, Rendy, on your impressive victory at ⁢the⁣ Indonesian Downhill 2024 series! How does it feel to ‍reclaim your title as the main elite men’s champion?

Rendy Varera Sanjaya: Thank ‍you! It feels amazing to win again. I’m really grateful for the support from my team and⁣ everyone who has been ⁢cheering⁣ for us. This win ‍holds special ‌significance for me, especially⁤ given the challenging conditions today.

Editor: Speaking of those conditions, you mentioned the track was wet after the rain. How did that affect your racing strategy?

Rendy: The⁢ wet track definitely changed things up. During the seeding run,⁤ the conditions were much drier, so I had to adapt ⁣my approach significantly. I focused on maintaining control and finding the⁤ right lines while being ‌cautious of ⁢the⁤ slick spots. It was a test of skill and nerves!

Editor: You finished ⁢the race with a time of 4 minutes 03.309 seconds, which is quite ‌impressive! What was your mindset going into those ⁢final moments of the race?

Rendy: ⁢ My mindset was all about staying focused and calm. I knew I had a lead over Azhar, but I also knew anything⁢ could happen in downhill racing. I kept reminding myself to trust my practice and instincts. Pushing too hard could have backfired, especially with the wet conditions.

Editor: You ⁤are already a champion from last year. How‍ do you keep your motivation up for another competitive season?

Rendy: That’s a great question. I think ‍passion for the sport is ‍what drives me. I love racing and the thrill it brings. Each season presents new⁣ challenges, and I enjoy pushing ‌my limits ⁣and seeing how I can improve. Plus, my team keeps me motivated with their support and camaraderie.

Editor: What’s next for you after this win? Are there any upcoming competitions you’re particularly excited about?

Rendy: Yes, I’m looking forward to the next series of the championship. Each race is an opportunity to learn and grow as ⁤a rider. I’m also preparing for some international‍ competitions later this year, which will be an exciting challenge.

Editor: That sounds terrific! Thank you, Rendy, for your time, and congratulations once again on your victory today!

Rendy: Thank you! I appreciate‍ it. See you at the next race!
Of both skill and mental fortitude.

Editor: You recorded an impressive time of 4 minutes and 03.309 seconds, finishing seven seconds ahead of your closest competitor. What was going through your mind as you approached the final stretch of the race?

Rendy: As I approached the last part, I was a mix of excitement and nerves. I knew I had a good lead, but you can never be too certain in downhill racing. I just focused on keeping my speed and making sure to nail the last few turns. I didn’t want to lose my momentum after working so hard throughout the course.

Editor: You mentioned that you viewed the track conditions through video streaming before the race. How much did that preparation help you?

Rendy: It helped a lot! Being able to see how the track changed and where the risky areas were allowed me to mentally prepare. It’s crucial in downhill to be aware of the course, and having that foresight made a difference in my approach during the race.

Editor: With this victory, you also overtook Andy Prayoga to become the leader in standing points in the Men Elite category. How does it feel to lead as you head toward the final series?

Rendy: It feels great to be in the lead, but I know this is just one step in my journey. I need to stay focused and consistent as we head into the final series at Klemuk Bike Park. My goal is to maintain this momentum and aim for the overall national championship.

Editor: Any thoughts on the upcoming final round and how you plan to prepare?

Rendy: I’ll definitely be reviewing footage again and working closely with my team on strategy. The Klemuk track will present its own challenges, so I’ll need to adapt my training accordingly. I’m excited, and I hope to carry this victory into our final event!

Editor: Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us, Rendy. Best of luck in the final round!

Rendy: Thank you! I appreciate the support!
