On May 2nd in Rome the European Photo Book (FEP) Awards forgive. This time the price went for that best photo book in Europe to the work “Thank You, Mouse!”, by the photographer couple Heidi and Hans-Jürgen Koch. The Austrian Edition Lammerhuber was awarded for the second time in a row. “I was able to accept the award with humility and joy,” admits Verleger Lois Lammerhuber.
According to the Kochs, the award-winning photo book is a tribute to the laboratory mouse, “man’s best friend”. The reason given is that laboratory mice give people a gift: their lives, for our lives. Heidi and Hans-Jürgen Koch want to memorialize the little heroes with their work. The artistic approach would also give the photographs of the “human mice” a universal meaning. They reflect nothing less than the dignity of the creature and respect for it.
The couple began their joint expedition into the world of photography more than 25 years ago. For the studied social worker and the behavioral scientist, animals became a photographic theme of life. Many publications in renowned, international magazines are evidence of passion and profession. The two have received numerous awards for their photographic work, including from: Art Directors Club Germany and Europe, BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year, Lead Awards, Hansel Mieth Prize, German Prize for Scientific Photography, Alfred Fried Photography Award and World Press Photo .
