1. Midwest, USA

Cities like Cleveland, Indianapolis and Minneapolis have become real hotspots for creativity, diversity and good food in recent years. But even if you’re drawn to nature, you’ll find what you’re looking for in the Midwest. For example, in Cuyahoga Valley National Park, which is criss-crossed by cloud forests.

Particularly beautiful: Minneapolis in autumn.

From a trip to vibrant Warsaw with a large gastronomic scene to hiking tours in the Carpathians, kayaking on the Masurian Lake District or cycling tours in the Białowieża National Park – the choice is yours.

3. Nicaragua

Nicaragua is considered one of the best budget destinations in Central America and offers surf spots, sun, colonial villages, tropical forests and deserted islands. A tip for anyone looking for a leisurely paradise: the Corn Islands off the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua.

4. Danube Limes, Bulgaria

Anyone who travels by car or bike along the Bulgarian bank of the Danube between the cities of Vidin and Silistra will come across a large number of ancient settlements from the time of the Roman Empire. Some of them are still well preserved and have been nominated for inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2024. Particularly exciting for all culture fans.

The medieval Baba Vida Castle on the Danube is worth a detour.

5. Normandy, France

The Impressionism Festival will take place in Normandy from March to September 2024 – in honor of the 150th anniversary of the art style coined by Claude Monet. The program includes open-air theater performances and dance cafés, art exhibitions and workshops, forest walks, stargazing, sound and light shows or romantic picnics à la Renoir.

6. Ikaria Island, Greece

The Greek island of Ikaria is said to be the birthplace of Dionysus, the god of wine. No wonder night-long festivals called “Panigyria” are celebrated here. These are particularly famous for their wild spectacles of food, wine and traditional dancing. Also good to know: The islanders have the highest life expectancy in Europe. One in three people will be over 90 years old. The secret recipe? Long afternoon naps, lots of mountain tea and beans, little coffee and meat and a healthy sex life well into old age.

On the island of Ikaria, enjoyment of life is very important.

7. Algeria

In the M’Zab Valley, pastel-colored citadel villages are hidden in the hills – a well-kept secret because selfies are forbidden here so that the valley doesn’t become an Insta-hype. Another highlight of the country, which is relatively unknown to tourists, is Tassili N’Ajjer, the home of the Tuareg nomads and one of the world’s largest rock art sites.

Tassili N’Ajjer lies in the dunes of the Algerian Sahara and is home to the Tuareg nomads.

The night trains are celebrating their comeback and train enthusiasts can look forward to lots of new connections in Europe. According to Lonely Planet, the company European Sleeper is planning a train connection between Amsterdam and Barcelona soon, while the French company Midnight Trains wants to build carriages in the style of luxury hotels.

In the future you can look forward to new night train connections in Europe.
