Realme C33
We start with the cheapest on our list, the realme C33. It arrived on the national market at the end of 2022 and currently appears on offers for less than R$ 800. It stands out in this price range for having a cool design and offering a more accurate set than the basics of other brands.
It features a large 6.5-inch screen with HD+ resolution. The refresh rate is only 60 Hz, but it makes up for it by having a more responsive touch sensor that improves the system’s response time. It delivers good performance, well above most cell phones for less than R$ 1 thousand and its battery yields enough to guarantee the whole day away from sockets.
It comes with a 50 MP camera that takes good pictures on sunny days and doesn’t suffer so much in darker places due to the efficient night mode. And if your dad isn’t into Xiaomi or Samsung’s modified Android, Realme’s clean interface will please.

Realm C33 Compare
Samsung Galaxy M14
The realme C33 has a negative point for some people: it does not bring 5G connectivity. If you want to give your father a cell phone that will last for many years without becoming obsolete any time soon, the Galaxy M14 can be a good alternative. It hit the market in April this year and can already be found for around R$1,000.
The Galaxy M14 loses in performance compared to the realme C33, but gains in battery easily. By the way, this is its main highlight for the segment, being the best cell phone in low cost autonomy that we tested recently. With it, you can have two days of battery life.
The M14 comes with a larger screen, in this case 6.6 inches, and here we have a 90 Hz refresh rate for superior fluidity. Unfortunately, the sound is only mono with the realme C33 and does not excite in terms of power and quality. The M14’s 50MP camera isn’t much above the Realme basics, but it’s a little better at selfies and videos.

Motorola Moto G53
If your father is a Motorola fan and you want a good cell phone from the brand that doesn’t cost too much, then our recommendation is the Moto G53. It hit the market in March 2023 and now halfway through the year it can be found for less than R$1,200.
The G53 features a 6.5-inch screen with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, which guarantees superior fluidity compared to the aforementioned models from Realme and Samsung. Another advantage is the two speakers, which not only guarantee stereo sound but also more powerful audio.
He is more agile than Samsung’s rival in performance, but is below in terms of battery life. However, it makes up for spending less time in the socket to be recharged. Its 50 MP camera takes good pictures even in low light places and captures vibrant images with great colors. The software is simple and easy to use with the classic gestures of shaking the device to turn on the flashlight or open the camera.

Samsung Galaxy A34
Moving up the segment, we have the Galaxy A34 as our recommendation for a good low-cost intermediary. It was launched in Brazil in March 2023 and can currently be found at around R$1,400.
The A34 brings water resistance as an extra, which is a great differential for the segment. It also has a large screen with a rate of 120 Hz like the Motorola model, but here we have an AMOLED panel with stronger brightness and better colors. It also has good quality stereo sound, but be aware that there is no headphone jack, in case your dad prefers to use wired headphones.
Samsung’s intermediary compensates with better performance and its battery yields more. Here we already have a more complete photographic set with the right to ultra-wide for photos that include everyone in the family, as well as the ability to record 4K videos.

Samsung Galaxy A54
Is your dad the type who enjoys a more compact cell phone? Then Galaxy A54 will be the right choice. It has everything the A34 has to offer and a little more and can be found now in mid-2023 in the range of R$ 1,700.
The A54 comes with more powerful hardware that delivers better performance. Its battery lasts a little longer and its screen, despite being smaller, achieves a good level of brightness and has HDR10+ support to take better advantage of movies and series on streaming services.
The photographic set is more advanced with a better main sensor and a more competent ultra-wide camera. The front is also superior and captures sharper selfies, while the hardware handles post-processing better, giving more flexibility if it intends to go beyond the standard camera. The software is the same as the A34 and there are also several years of guaranteed Android updates.

POCO X5 Pro
Does your dad like Xiaomi cell phones? So we have two nominations on our list. The first is the Poco X5 Pro, which officially arrived here with a hefty price, but you can find it cheaper in national retail at around R$ 1,800.
It comes with a larger screen than the others mentioned and will be good for anyone who is addicted to movies and series, even more so because the Poco X5 Pro supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision. In addition, its screen reproduces more colors and the touch sensor is the most agile on our list, which will please your father if he enjoys playing online.
The sound is powerful and of quality, surpassing Samsung’s intermediaries, but it is below in multitasking performance due to the lack of MIUI optimization. To compensate, there is a battery that lasts longer and recharges much faster. The photographic set consists of a 108 MP camera with high capacity to take great pictures.

Redmi Note 12 Pro
Our other indication of an intermediate cell phone from Xiaomi is the Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus. It was not officially launched here like the rest of the Redmi Note 12 line, but it can be found in national retail with a value close to R$ 2,200 in offers on the TudoCelular website.
If your dad is into a photographer and you want to give him a cell phone that has a powerful sensor and you don’t want to invest a fortune in a very expensive cell phone, the Note 12 Pro Plus will do just fine. It features a powerful 200 MP sensor, the same resolution found in the best top of the line. Xiaomi’s software may not even exploit this potential, but there is a Pro mode that allows you to take full advantage of what the Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus has to offer.
There’s also a great multimedia experience with a large, full-screen display with strong brightness, great colors, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. Its performance is more agile than the Poco X5 Pro and its battery also lasts a long time with the differential of recharging in an impressive 24 minutes, which makes it the most agile on our list.

Samsung Galaxy S22
Do you want to give a top-of-the-line cell phone as a gift, but the 2023 models are too expensive? So we recommend the Galaxy S22, which was launched last year and doesn’t change much compared to the most recent one, which is BRL 1,000 more expensive. The Galaxy S22 can currently be found for less than R$3,000.
There’s the same 6.1-inch screen with Full HD+ resolution, strong brightness and great colors as the latest model. And just like the A34 and A54, here we also have water resistance, an extra that you can’t find in Xiaomi intermediaries. The performance is more agile than the others mentioned, but the battery is the worst on our list.
The S22 ends up making up for it with the 50 MP camera, which despite the sensor having a quarter of the resolution of the Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus, takes much better photos in automatic mode. Another highlight is the camcorder capable of making 8K videos and also comes with some interesting extras. And as much as the S22 is an older model, it will still receive Android updates for quite some time.

Motorola Edge 40
Do you prefer to give a top-of-the-line cell phone as a gift? So we indicate Motorola’s Edge 40. It features a 144 Hz screen, which goes beyond the 120 Hz we mentioned earlier for even better fluidity. The sound is more powerful than the Samsung model and ensures great sound quality for enjoying movies and music.
Motorola’s top may not be as agile as last year’s model from Samsung in multitasking, but it runs any Android application well. Your battery lasts longer and takes less time to recharge. The software is cleaner with just the essentials, but it features the Ready For platform that transforms the cell phone into a PC when connecting it to a TV or monitor and proves to be a great alternative to Samsung’s DeX.
The Edge 40 also has IP68 certification for advanced protection once morest water and its photographic set is capable of recording good photos, although in some scenarios it is below the Galaxy S22 in detail. Still, it’s a good phone for R$3,500.

Apple iPhone 13
Closing the cell phone indications guide to give as a gift on Father’s Day, we have the iPhone 13. For the same reason we talked regarding the Galaxy S22, we also indicate Apple’s older model because it is almost R$ 1 thousand cheaper than the iPhone 14 and have few differences that do not justify the price.
It comes with the same screen size as Samsung’s top, but with a panel of only 60 Hz. At least it makes up for it with strong brightness and great colors. Powerful stereo sound also ensures great multimedia experience.
The iPhone 13 is the most agile model on our list and its battery lasts well. The photographic set ensures good photos in any light situation, as well as the front that makes great selfies. It isn’t capable of 8K footage like the S22, but it does great 4K video. Then there’s iOS with its quick updates and some apps that are better optimized than Android.
