For an alleged deception, her strict Muslim husband nearly killed her. He was sentenced Friday to 64 months in prison for attempted murder and threats.
The separation dates back two years: after 17 years of a marriage that was in a bad way, Madame had mentioned a divorce and contacted a lawyer. One Monday, when the couple had been sleeping apart for a long time, the wife was seated at a table with a man whom her husband took for his lover. After breaking down the front door, the husband burst into a fury on the fourth floor, armed with a double-bent tubular key which was fitted to his car and which is used to change the wheels.

With this 1.2 kilo tool intended for screwing and unscrewing bolts, the jealous husband hit his wife in the back two or three times, until the imprint of the tool was left in her flesh. As reported by “Le Journal du Jura” and “Le Quotidien Jurassien”, the altercation continued on the stairs, with the supposed lover. Then the husband attacked his wife again: “He wrapped my hair around his fist and took me to the bathroom,” said the wife, according to the “QJ”.
After locking the door, the attacker hit his wife’s head against the tub or sink. When she was on the ground, between her legs, he turned her head from left to right with a sharp movement, as if to break her neck, then tried to strangle her by uttering threats.

The victim having called 117, an audio recording testifies to his terrified cries. “I never would have thought that she could cheat on me,” justified the husband, claiming to have heard, through the door, “lovers kissing or making love”. A version that did not convince the president of the court. “You preferred to see your wife dead rather than with another,” commented Maryvonne Pic Jeandupeux, quoted by “Le Journal du Jura”.
The wife suffered a concussion. “I punched her in the face. then I regained consciousness that it was my wife and I stopped,” explained the defendant, a North African who is attached to strict respect for Islam and Koranic law.

Madame denied an extramarital relationship in these terms, reported by “Le JdJ”: “By asking for separation, it’s like a shame, a failure for him in front of his peers. Whereas if I cheated on him, he wins, ”said the wife, who will in principle receive 25,000 francs in compensation for moral injury.
