Top 14 red lantern, Montpellier called on Bernard Laporte, new director of rugby for the Hérault club. A surprising choice.
From champion of France to last in the Top 14. In less than two years, Montpellier Hérault Rugby collapsed. The fault lies in choices of staff or players that are not always very inspired. The president, Mohed Altrad, therefore sounded the alarm, calling on a man to help: Bernard Laporte. “We are convinced that Bernard Laporte is one of the best French rugby experts”underlines the Hérault president. “In this sporting period, which is one of the most complicated that this club that I love so much has known, Bernard Laporte will have to strengthen cohesion within the collective. His support for our objectives and his passion for rugby make him the sports leader that the MHR urgently needs. »
Former president of the French Rugby Federation, Bernard Laporte is preparing to get closer to the field once more. A choice of the heart for the man who was notably a three-time European champion with Toulon and won the Six Nations Tournament four times at the head of the French XV. But for the big mouth of French rugby, the revolution lies essentially in his baggage.
Patrice Collazo arrives
By heading to Montpellier, Laporte takes with him Patrice Collazo, freshly arrived from Brive, as general manager. The latter succeeds Richard Cockerill, whose mandate lasted only a few months. Also out is Jean-Baptiste Elissalde: Vincent Etcheto takes charge of three-quarters. The duo Christian Labit and Antoine Battut will be in charge of the forwards.
A revolution from A to Z which will have to produce immediate results if the MHR hopes to get out of this mess. With six units on the clock, the Hérault club is two points from the play-off place occupied by Perpignan… and six from LOU, 12th. The reception of Oyonnax on the next day of Top 14 therefore promises to be crucial for Bernard Laporte and his men, who will pass an already crucial first test.
