“Bernard Casoni will use all necessary avenues of appeal to be restored to his rights and for his honor to be cleared. He will, in particular, refer today (Tuesday) to the industrial tribunal of Orléans to contest this early termination”writes Me Didier Lacombe in a press release.
“Bernard Casoni, following the early termination of his contract by US Orléans and the media presentation made of it, firmly contests all accusations of racism against him. Mr. Bernard Casoni does not intend for his name to be associated to racism, which he has always fought with all his strength”concludes the lawyer.
On Monday, US Orléans announced “early termination of the employment contract” of his coach, immediately naming his successor, the former coach of Saint-Brieux Karim Mokeddem (49 years old).
During a press conference, club president Philippe Boutron spoke of a situation “humanly (…) difficult”.
“I think (…) that he is experiencing it very, very badly, because, fundamentally, he is someone (…) who is not at all what we may have felt through the clumsiness of his words. Humanly, it is regrettable”the manager commented about Casoni.
Targeted by a preliminary investigation for provoking hatred or racial discrimination and for public insults of a racist nature opened by the Orléans public prosecutor’s office, Bernard Casoni was suspended by his club on October 10.
The former international presented his apologies two days later on France Bleu Orléans, arguing that he was “anything but racist” but admitting to having held “inappropriate remarks”.
Local radio revealed the coach’s comments, made at a press conference. The technician explained that his players were not “no more stupid than North Africans”.
A former Marseille player, Casoni, aged 62, coached several seasons in Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia as well as in France in Bastia, Auxerre and Lorient in particular.
