Early Monday afternoon, in Kanderstag (BE), two cars collided head-on on the access road to vehicle transport, the Bernese cantonal police announced in a press release. One of the vehicles came to rest in the area of ​​the railway tracks. Four people were injured in the accident, one of them seriously. The section of road was closed for several hours and rail traffic was restricted.

The passenger in the car traveling in the direction of Frutigen was trapped and had to be evacuated by the fire brigade. Seriously injured, she was taken to hospital by helicopter. Two other people involved in the accident were lightly injured and taken to hospital by ambulance. A fourth person, also slightly injured, received medical treatment on the spot and did not have to be hospitalized. Both vehicles had to be evacuated using a crane.

The affected section of road was closed to traffic for approximately four and a half hours and a diversion was put in place. In addition to several Bernese cantonal police patrols, members of the Kandersteg fire and rescue services were mobilised, firefighters from Kandersteg and Frutigen, two ambulance teams, a Rega crew, a breakdown service and a intervention team. An investigation has been opened to determine the course and circumstances of the accident.
