The rejection of the initiative made ASLOCA jump. “It is unacceptable that the law is not applied – the consequences for tenants are too great”, storms Carlo Sommaruga, president of the association in a press release. “Households in Switzerland are deprived of billions of francs each year because many donors are making excessive returns,” according to the socialist senator, author of a parliamentary initiative at the Council of States. And to quote a recent study which shows that tenants have paid 78 billion francs too much during the past 15 years. “We will consider other measures to prevent too high rental yields,” he warned.
