Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Chmygal is visiting Germany this Sunday in the hope of even stronger support for Russia and to turn the page following recent tensions between kyiv and Berlin.
Germany’s long ambivalent attitude towards Moscow following the outbreak of war six months ago, and its initial lack of military support in kyiv, have deeply irritated the government of Volodymyr Zelensky. But things have since improved.
Less than a week ago, Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced in Prague that he wanted Germany to assume “particular responsibility” to help Ukraine strengthen its artillery and air defense systems. He also promised Berlin’s support for kyiv “as long as necessary”.
In Berlin, before talking to Olaf Scholz, Denys Chmygal has planned to meet President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
