Berlin places under supervision three refineries in which Rosneft is a shareholder

The Russian group evokes an illegal action and plans to take the case to court. Germany, for its part, considers this action necessary to secure its energy supplies, in the midst of a showdown with Moscow over the supply of Russian gas and oil.

On its territory, Germany has several refineries owned, at least in part, by the Russian group Rosneft. From now on, all the participations of the Russian public company in German subsidiaries are managed by the federal administration in charge of energy.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz considers this measure justified by Russia’s unreliability as an energy supplier. In the northeast of the country, the PCK plant in Schwedt supplies 90% of the fuel to the German capital.

Pending an easing of relations with Russia, the guardianship of the German government should therefore allow Germany to be supplied from other suppliers, such as Poland, and to maintain oil refining in the plant, thus ensuring the maintenance of jobs for 1,200 employees. Berlin is going to invest more than a billion euros over the next few years to perpetuate the PCK refinery and modernize the pipeline that connects it to the port of Rostock.
