Berlin condemns ‘cold war’ demands

German Foreign Minister Annalina Birbock announced on Friday that the G7 countries are ready to hold a “serious dialogue” with Russia on the Ukraine crisis.

Bierbock said that the foreign ministers of the Group of Seven countries (Germany, the United States, Britain, France, Japan, Canada and Italy), who will meet on Saturday, will send a “message of unity” that “we are ready for a serious dialogue on security for all,” and added: “Small steps towards peace are better than steps.” She stressed that “the desire for dialogue must be supported by real offers of dialogue, and declarations of troop withdrawal must be accompanied by verifiable withdrawals.”

On the other hand, the German minister said, in a situation that coincides with the annual Munich Security Conference, which is dominated by the Ukrainian crisis, that Russia is endangering Europe’s security through “demands dating back to the Cold War.”

International leaders and high-ranking diplomats are meeting in Munich, southern Germany, until Sunday, for discussions on defense and security issues.
