Berlin: Car crashes into Brandenburg Gate, driver killed
A car crashed into the iconic Brandenburg Gate on Sunday evening, killing its driver in the crash, Berlin police said on Twitter.
The vehicle arrived from the famous Unter den Linden avenue and hit the famous Berlin landmark around 11:30 p.m. local time, police wrote. An “investigation is underway into the identity of the driver and the circumstances of the incident,” police said.
The “Bild” daily published a photo of a badly damaged black car and said the area around the gate had been cordoned off.
Located in the heart of the German capital at the border that once divided East and West Berlin, the Brandenburg Gate has become a symbol of German unity.
