The Berlaymont school center was evacuated on Friday morning in Waterloo due to a bomb threat, local authorities said. Search operations at the establishment should be completed by the end of the morning, announced Mayor Florence Reuter to the Belga agency.

A bomb threat was received on Friday morning around 7:00 a.m. at the Berlaymont school center, located on Drève d’Argenteuil, in Waterloo.

This is an electronic message addressed to the management of the establishment.

The school and municipal authorities immediately mobilized to organize the evacuation of the students and teachers present, and invite the arrivals to return home.

“Those who were unable to return, I am thinking in particular of the interns, were taken to the sports hall located near the town hall, which constitutes the reception center provided for in our emergency plan,” comments Florence. Archyde.com.

The intervention of several federal and local police teams was requested and dogs were brought in to participate in the search of the premises.

A vast security perimeter was set up, causing significant traffic disruptions in the Waterloo region.

“The perimeter has been reduced to allow traffic to flow more smoothly and we hope that the operations will be completed by midday,” said the Waterloo mayor in Belga.

Classes have been permanently suspended for the day on Friday, they should resume on Monday at the Berlaymont school center.
