Vienna (OTS/SPW-K) – SPÖ children and family spokesman, local councilor Marcus Gremel and SPÖ education spokesperson, local councilor Nicole Berger-Krotsch emphasize the importance of access to education for everyone, regardless of financial situation: “The Viennese Social Democrats stand for a sustainable and fair education system that is available to everyone offers Viennese the best possible opportunities. It is clear to us that education and therefore real future opportunities must not be dependent on the parents’ wallet.”
Gremel emphasizes: “For Vienna and the social democracy, education begins in kindergarten. The Viennese kindergarten is a long-standing successful concept and shows that Vienna creates a work-family balance for everyone, instead of deportation day care centers for children. The kindergarten is the first educational institution to set the standard “Framework for child-friendly learning processes in which the youngest people in our society can actively get to know, understand and shape their world in a group and under the expert supervision of elementary teachers.” In order to further improve the general conditions in the kindergarten, the City of Vienna is providing helping hands by increasing the number of assistants and additional staff for cleaning activities. But the federal government must also finally fulfill its responsibility. Only together can we solve the great challenge of the shortage of skilled workers. Urgent federal support is needed. Only with an additional billion from the federal budget and a real training offensive can we create better working conditions for employees, which in turn would ensure the best educational opportunities for children, explains Gremel.
Nicole Berger-Krotsch emphasizes the measures to strengthen school education: “The free all-day schools in Vienna with warm and healthy meals are a further step to ensure that education does not depend on the parents’ wallet. With the introduction in 2020 and the constant expansion of With free all-day schools, we ensure a socially just form of school. The school is an important social place that goes far beyond the mere imparting of educational content. The provision of free, communal, warm meals is of enormous importance for our school children, both from a health and a health perspective also social aspects.” Berger-Krotsch emphasizes the importance of creating a common school for all 6 to 14 year olds in order to eliminate the early separation of students into different school types during primary school. She also advocates abolishing German remedial classes and to be replaced by holistic language support in the education system. Other important demands from Nicole Berger-Krotsch and the Viennese Social Democrats are the modernization of the infrastructure at federal schools, the improvement of teachers’ employment law, the administrative relief of people working in education, the reduction of class sizes and the implementation of a socially just system university entrance.
The Viennese Social Democrats are committed to comprehensive educational reform and ensure that education is accessible to everyone from the start.
The Social Democrats are also committed to socially fair access to higher education and the promotion of adult education.
The Viennese Social Democrats call for cooperation to create a sustainable education system that guarantees equal opportunities and quality.
“However, it is regrettable to see that the Vienna ÖVP, under the patronage of non-executive city councilor Karl Mahrer and local councilor Harald Zierfuß, is trying to distract from the failure of their federal party and thus the federal government by criticizing political maneuvers in education policy. “Vienna’s social democracy remains focused on ensuring high-quality education for all Viennese,” concluded Berger-Krotsch and Gremel.
