Bergen School of Business and Economics is establishing a communication award in honor of Victor D. Norman

Victor D. Norman’s mediation award is a celebration of the NHH professor’s outstanding efforts as an economist and mediator.

– Victor’s ability to combine deep insight into the economics subject with clear, engaging and often challenging communication is unique, says NHH rector Øystein Thøgersen.

Shipowners Atle Bergshaven, Herbjørn Hansson and investor and founder of Umoe Jens Ulltveit-Moe, as well as NHH alumni and friends of Norman, have taken the initiative and finance the award.

The winner will be chosen by a jury consisting of Aftenposten editor-in-chief Trine Eilertsen, professor Kjetil Storesletten at the University of Oslo and professor and NHH rector Øystein Thøgersen.

– It is an honor and a pleasure to help hand out this award in Victor’s name. He has meant a great deal to NHH, but also to the public debate, says Thøgersen.

The dissemination award in Norman’s name is to be awarded annually to a recipient who contributes with dissemination and debate about issues in the Norwegian economy and Norwegian economic policy. The prize is NOK 50,000 and will be awarded for the first time during the Alumni Conference in Oslo on 18 October.

– Victor is seriously ill, but we are very happy to be able to use this opportunity to honor him, says headmaster Thøgersen.

Victor Norman, 78, has been seriously ill with cancer for some time. He was Minister of Labor and Administration between 2001 and 2004 in Bondevi’s second government.
