Bergen man threatened BT, Posten and a ministry before the bomb threat against Nav

– He is charged with several matters and a total of four cases of threats. The other three cases are threatening letters to Bergens Tidende, Posten Norge and a ministry in Oslo, says police attorney Jørgen Henriksen in the West police district to NRK.

The accused, a man in his 50s who lives in Bergen, put down a bag at the Nav office in Åsane storsenter in Bergen on Monday and made a threat. The contents of the bag turned out to be harmless.

The man is charged with terroristic threats, and he pleads guilty. However, the defender, lawyer Einar Råen, believes that it is about threats, not terrorist threats.

To The daily newspaper says police attorney Henriksen that the threatening letters have arrived in recent weeks, and that the police thus knew who he was before the incident on Monday.

The accused’s daughter is linked to another threatening letter sent to Bergens Tidende. She is charged with this and imprisoned.

Asking for four weeks in custody

According to VG the man must have first sent a message to the Emergency Medical Communication Center (AMK) in Bodø, before he later placed a suspicious bag at the Nav office in Åsane storsenter.

The man was arrested on Monday in his car south of Bergen. On Monday, police said no further arrests were planned in the case.

The police will request that the man be remanded in custody for four weeks. This is because of the risk of repetition, Henriksen explains The Bergen newspaper.

The accused’s defense attorney speaks up Bergens Tidende that his client consents to the imprisonment.

Nav is open today

On Tuesday, the day after the threat situation, the Nav office in Åsane will be open as normal, reports NRK.

Before the office opened its doors, union representatives invited to a meeting to answer questions from the employees, Bjarte Hysing-Olsen, county director of Nav Vestland, told the channel.

– It is clear that it is a burden for the employees. All such incidents make us uneasy, and all such incidents are very unfortunate for the working environment. But it is all the more important that we gather, so that employees feel that it is safe to return to work, he says.
