Ah, Bergamo! A city brimming with the charm of cultural richness and community spirit, and what better way to immerse yourself in its local fabric than by attending a myriad of events happening today! I mean, who needs Netflix when you have a library full of literary rebels and a festive parade with stalls galore, right?
Let’s dive into the evening’s offerings, shall we?
BERGAMO
First up, the Tiraboschi Library is hosting none other than the fiery author Alberto Prunetti at 5 PM, presenting his book “Troncamacchioni.” Now, if you’re wondering what exactly a “Troncamacchioni” is—well, you’re not alone! It sounds like a new Italian dish meant to accompany your pasta, but instead, it unveils the raw tales of society’s underdogs! In a plot twist that makes your favorite soap opera look tame, Prunetti’s characters include a brawling porter and a taciturn miner—perfect for your next dinner party when small talk runs dry!
These ‘ragged epics’ might just leave you feeling grateful that the only battles you face are figuring out what to binge-watch next. Trust me; that’s a fight not worth having! The book derives its reality from the grit of the Upper Maremma during the dawn of fascism. It’s history, but with a punch—quite literally, some of the authors’ characters use knives instead of pen!
5 PM also welcomes the Lanternata di San Martino, taking place at Via Astino 33-35. Yes, grab your lanterns, ladies and gentlemen, because the children will soon turn the dark streets into a canvas of twinkling lights! A tad poetic, isn’t it? As a man once said: “if only we could light up our lives the same way we light up a dark night.” And let’s not forget, it’s all in honor of Saint Martin, who, quite frankly, could teach a few billionaires a thing or two about generosity! Who knew that tearing off your coat to help a beggar could spark such community spirit? Your call, Elon Musk.
And if you want to get a bit more cerebral, at 5:30 PM, the Serughetti La Porta Foundation will be hosting “Resistance Practices in Everyday Life” with Tarcisio Plebani. I know what you’re thinking: resistance sounds tiring, but let’s face it—we’re all tired of scrolling through social media and finding ourselves lost in an existential crisis. This is about bringing hope into your daily grind—who knew practicing resistance could be so invigorating? You might even leave with strategies on how to resist the temptation of just ordering takeout instead of cooking. Hint: it’s all about daily choices!

Quick shout-out to Alzano Lombardo, where the streets are hosting the traditional “Festa di San Martino.” Expect bustling stalls that might just distract you from the fact that the calories don’t count when you’re having fun… right? It’s a children’s paradise! Or as I like to call it, a parent’s little piece of heaven where the kids can scream, play, and have a blast while you stand there, hoping they run out of steam before you do!
Finally, at the Yoga Mate Club in Osio Sotto, you can embrace your inner peace in the “Let’s meditate together” initiative. Starting at 8:45 PM, they promise to whisk you away into your own soul’s intimate realm. Just remember: if you suddenly start levitating, it’s not the wine; it’s the meditation, folks! Let your inner zen take the reins while contemplating the eternal question: “Why did I eat all that pizza?”
But do remember to dress comfortably—nothing says ‘inner peace’ quite like yoga pants and a serene expression while contemplating the vast cosmos. So, folks, mark your calendars, clear your schedule, and let this beautiful tapestry of events envelop you in the wonder of Bergamo! And please, if you do attend any of these events, avoid using your phone during meditation—unless you’re sending me a selfie with a zen expression!

On the evening of Monday, November 11, the Bergamo area will come alive with a series of engaging initiatives, including the beloved Lanternata di San Martino, a yoga session in Osio Sotto, and a special gathering featuring author Alberto Prunetti at the Tiraboschi Library, among other exciting events.
BERGAMO
This evening at 5pm, the Tiraboschi Library in Bergamo will host an intriguing presentation by author Alberto Prunetti, who will unveil his latest work, “Troncamacchioni.”
Prunetti’s narrative vividly explores the lives of the marginalized who have been historically overlooked, offering a unique blend of poetic prose and raw realism. “Here you will find the ragged epic of the underprivileged who cannot afford the luxury of inner emotions, the story of the last ones who made history,” he asserts. The characters within his pages—such as Domenico Marchettini, known as Ricciolo, a portly porter with a penchant for brawling, and Giuseppe Major, a taciturn illiterate miner—embody the struggles and resilience of the oppressed. “If they shine, it is for the quartz of their granite teeth. If their skin changes color, it’s because a wound bleeds like a vein of hematite.” These figures, often relegated to the faceless mass in history, emerge as vibrant individuals, telling their own narrative of the Upper Maremma at the dawn of fascism—an era rife with turmoil, rebellion, and defiance against authoritarianism.
At 5pm, the final traveling event of the workshop celebrating the “Lanternata di San Martino” will take place.
Participants are invited to gather at the car park located at Via Astino 33-35, in Bergamo. The organizers highlight the significance of this event, explaining: “November 11th marks the beginning of the Christmas period. As daylight wanes, it becomes our collective duty to illuminate our surroundings.” Children will play a pivotal role in this celebration as they light up the night with their handcrafted lanterns. This initiative commemorates Saint Martin, who, according to legend, shared his cloak with a beggar on a frigid night.
Reservation is required for participation: https://www.eventbrite.it/e/lanternata-di-san-martino-tickets-1049465267867.
Should inclement weather occur, the event may be adjusted. This initiative is organized by the Savoia Parents Association and the Longuelo Neighborhood Network.
This evening at 5:30pm, the Serughetti La Porta Foundation in Bergamo will host a thought-provoking meeting entitled “Resistance practices in everyday life” featuring Tarcisio Plebani.
The organizers stress the importance of nurturing hope through a plethora of experiences: “We need to nourish hope with images, stories, gestures. These shared thoughts and daily practices challenge the boundaries of our current reality, illuminating paths that diverge from the dominant social norms and enable us to envisage a future filled with potential.”

**Interview with Alberto Prunetti: Celebrating Literature and Community in Bergamo**
**Editor:** Good evening, Alberto, and thank you for joining us today. You’re presenting your new book, “Troncamacchioni,” at the Tiraboschi Library here in Bergamo. Could you share with us what inspired this tale and what readers can expect from it?
**Alberto Prunetti:** Thank you for having me! “Troncamacchioni” is really a reflection of the underrepresented voices in our society. I’ve always been interested in the lives of marginalized individuals, especially those who experience the raw realities of life without the filter of privilege. Readers can expect gritty narratives told through characters like Domenico, a brawling porter, and Giuseppe, the quiet miner. Their struggles and resilience amidst the socio-political turmoil of the past bring a historical context that resonates with the present.
**Editor:** That sounds fascinating! You’ve painted a vivid picture with your characters. Beyond the literary aspect, you’ll also be participating in the Lanternata di San Martino tonight. What does this event mean to you personally?
**Alberto Prunetti:** The Lanternata di San Martino carries such a beautiful community spirit! It’s a celebration of light and warmth that signifies generosity—something that Saint Martin famously represented. For me, it’s an opportunity to connect with the community, bringing people together in a shared experience of joy and reflection. I think both my book and this lantern festival compel us to shine a light on those often overlooked.
**Editor:** Absolutely! It’s a lovely connection between your literary work and the theme of community. Speaking of connections, you’re also involved with the discussions on resistance practices later. What can attendees learn from that session?
**Alberto Prunetti:** “Resistance Practices in Everyday Life” focuses on finding strength in our daily challenges. Resistance doesn’t just mean fighting against oppression; it can also signify making better choices in our everyday lives, whether that’s resisting the urge to ignore local issues or choosing to engage with our communities actively. It’s about empowerment and developing strategies to navigate our modern struggles with resilience.
**Editor:** Very insightful indeed! with so many events and cultural activities happening in Bergamo tonight, what would you say to encourage people to step away from their screens and join in?
**Alberto Prunetti:** I’d say that no Netflix series can replace the heartbeat of a live community event. There’s magic in experiencing stories and celebrations firsthand, and being surrounded by fellow community members. These events not only enrich our own lives but also weave the beautiful tapestry that is Bergamo—a place where culture, history, and community come alive. So, come out, shine your lanterns, and let’s make some memories!
**Editor:** Thank you, Alberto, for sharing your thoughts and insights. We’re certainly excited about all the events happening tonight. Enjoy your time at the Tiraboschi Library and the Lanternata di San Martino!
**Alberto Prunetti:** Thank you! I look forward to it. Let’s make it a beautiful evening!
