French footballer Benjamin Mendy was found not guilty of rape and attempted rape by a British court on Friday, five months following being acquitted of six other rape charges and one of sexual assault. Aged 28, Benjamin Mendy burst into tears when the verdict was announced, following a three-week trial in Chester (north of England). He had been retried since the end of June on two charges for which the jury had not reached a verdict at the end of the first trial. Benjamin Mendy had been imprisoned at the end of August 2021 and had spent more than four months in pre-trial detention, before being released at the beginning of January 2022, and placed under judicial supervision pending his first trial.
