On the evening of this Friday, April 21, 2023, National Television (ORTB), together with other television channels (Canal 3 Benin, Golfe TV Africa, E-Télé, Eden TV and TV Carrefour) and the digital channels of the Government aired a special on cybercrime. On the occasion, alongside among others, the Special Prosecutor of CRIET, Mario METONOU, Donatien SOKOU, Commissioner of the Central Office for the Repression of Cybercrime (OCRC), The Deputy Secretary General of the Government and Spokesperson of the Government, Wilfried Léandre HOUNGBEDJI commented on the approach of the Beninese Executive vis-à-vis the phenomenon:

“It’s an educational approach, what we are doing today. Those who are not yet victims need to know how to go about it so as not to fall into this trap. There is no sympathy for these cybercriminals. There are multiple modes of operation. This calls for the State not to lower its guard in the hunt. If we do nothing, the image of our country is at stake. Our reputation is at stake. Our credibility is at stake. It is a crime as much as any other. It’s too easy to say that it’s because there is no job that these people borrow this bad. No. The government is taking a lot of initiatives. Jobs are created…”
