Benidorm joins Anémona for another year in the fight against breast cancer

Benidorm Joins the Pink Parade for Breast Cancer Awareness!

Well, well, well! If it isn’t the lovely city of Benidorm, wrapping its gardens in pink like they’re preparing for a swanky gender reveal party! This week, our friends at the Benidorm City Council decided to don the pink ribbon to lend their support to those affected by breast cancer and the brave souls standing by their side. Nothing says solidarity like a pink ribbon tied around some neatly trimmed bushes—talk about grass-roots activism!

A Ribbon of Hope and Support

First Deputy Mayor Ana Pellicer and the crucially titled Mayor of Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, got together with local dignitaries and members of the Self-Help Group for Women with Breast and Gynecological Cancer, Anemona, to get the ribbons up. Honestly, if only solving world hunger was as simple as stringing some fabric around bushes, right? Still, it’s about time these initiatives get the spotlight they deserve, especially with World Breast Cancer Day looming on October 19.

Events to Savor and Celebrate

After marking the gardens with pink-tastic décor, the team rolled out their plan for the upcoming activities designed to shine a spotlight on awareness and support during this important week. Forget about Netflix; it’s time to get involved! Starting from this Saturday, the Benidorm Nautical Club will host the energetic ‘100 Strokes’ event of the SUMA Rowing League—because what says, “I care about breast cancer research” quite like splashing about in water, right?

And for those who prefer more mellow activities, how about an evening of piano and dance? An engaging recital at 7 p.m. will captivate the audience right after the director of IES L’Almadrava reads the official manifesto by FECMA, the **Spanish Breast Cancer Federation**. It’s a bit like a TED Talk but with jazz hands.

Marching with Purpose

Now, if you’re a fan of brisk walks mingled with meaningful causes, mark your calendar for the
XXII Solidarity March of Anémona on Sunday, October 20. Kicking off at 10 a.m. from Plaza de SS MM los Reyes de España, this march promises to be more crowded than a Benidorm beach on a good day! Participants will meander through the streets before returning for an energetic Zumba session. Trust me, if there’s one time you want to get your groove on while supporting a cause, this is it!

Flaunting Solidarity T-Shirts!

But wait, there’s more! Participants are encouraged to strut around in solidarity t-shirts available for just 12 euros. That’s right; you get to look fashionable while donating to a worthy cause. No need to worry about being out of pocket; you can snag these shirts at various locations across Benidorm.

And in case you’re wondering, every cent from sales goes to supporting therapeutic activities for those in need and funding essential breast cancer research. How’s that for a win-win?

Gratitude Goes Both Ways

Hats off to María Botella, president of Anémona, and the Benidorm City Council for not just talking the talk but walking the walk. Their support and hard work throughout the year show they are genuinely devoted to the cause. As Councilor Ángela Zaragozí so eloquently stated, “Let’s all join in the fun this week! We can probably rock the t-shirts while sipping on soft drinks and noshing on ham sandwiches donated by local restaurants.

So, gather your friends, strap on those walking shoes, and join the festivities because, at the end of the day, raising awareness for breast cancer doesn’t just rely on ribbons and sincerity but on powerful unity and community support. Let’s turn Benidorm pink this October!

Since this Tuesday, the gardens of Benidorm City Council have been wearing the pink ribbon to show their support for people affected by breast cancer and their families, as well as for research projects against this disease. The first deputy mayor, Ana Pellicer, and the mayor of Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, have participated in the placement of the commemorative ribbon along with other members of the Municipal Corporation and numerous components of the Self-Help Group for Women with Breast and Gynecological Cancer of the Marina Baixa, Anemone. This was the first of the events that will take place this week in our city to celebrate World Breast Cancer Day, which is commemorated worldwide next Saturday, October 19.

After the placement of this ribbon, which will remain anchored until next Sunday, the president of this group, María Botella, and the mayor of Equality have appeared to explain the rest of the activities that will take place over the next few days. Botella explained that throughout the week banners with the pink ribbon will be displayed in numerous towns in the region, as events prior to 19-O.

Already on Saturday, World Breast Cancer Day, the day will start at 10 am at the Benidorm Nautical Club, where the ‘100 Strokes’ of the SUMA Rowing League will be held. In the afternoon, at 7 p.m., in the Assembly Hall of the Benidorm City Council there will be a piano and dance recital, after which Ana Tomás, director of IES L’Almadrava, will read this year’s official manifesto, written by FECMA , the Spanish Breast Cancer Federation, and to which the 47 associations of affected women throughout the country are members, as explained by the president of Anémona.

Along with all this, the ‘highlight’ of the week will be the XXII Solidarity March of Anémona, which will take place this Sunday, October 20, and will depart at 10 in the morning from the Plaza de SS MM los Reyes de España , in which participation is expected to be massive. The members of Anémona have explained that this march, once again this year, will start from the Town Hall to the Paseo de Tamarindos, passing through the streets Herrerías, Passeig de la Carretera, Alcalde José Such, Armada Española and Vicente Llorca Alós, and returning in the opposite direction. . Once the march is over, in the Plaza del Consistorio there will be a ‘zumba’ session for the participants, as well as bars with soft drinks and sandwiches, as well as a tasting of rice and ham donated by collaborating restaurants, which can be purchased at popular prices.

Likewise, they have explained that the association continues to sell solidarity t-shirts to participate in this march, which have a price of 12 euros and can be found both at the group’s headquarters and in different collaborating stalls and businesses in Benidorm and other parts of the area. region. For those furthest behind, different points of sale for these t-shirts will also be set up on the same Sunday.

The president of Anémona recalled that all the proceeds from this day will be used to finance the therapeutic activity provided by the association and also the research carried out by Geicam, the leading breast cancer research group in Spain. Likewise, María Botella thanked the Benidorm City Council for “their support and collaboration”, as well as “the enormous effort they make to serve us and support all our initiatives, to make us feel at home”.

For her part, the Councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, thanked Anémona for “the determination and work they do throughout the year” to support people affected by breast cancer and has encouraged citizens to join the activities scheduled for this week, especially collaborating with the purchase of t-shirts for the Solidarity March on Sunday.
