Bengali ‘Babu”s New Home: Arrived in South Africa from Islamabad

Second Chance Wildlife, an animal rights organization in Pakistan, says that since December 2022, Babu, who is in the rescue center of the federal capital Islamabad, Bengal tiger To South Africa was transferred.

In December 2023, Head of Islamabad Wildlife Management Board, Raina Saeed Khan Sati, confirmed that the Bengal tiger cub named ‘Babu’ at the rescue center in the federal capital would be transferred to South Africa after Christmas.

In a conversation with Independent Urdu, he said that there is a lion sanctuary in South Africa, where the one-year-old ‘Babu’ can be taken care of better.

In early December 2022, the Board was informed by some residents of Islamabad that a tiger cub had been spotted at a veterinary clinic in the city.

The Wildlife Management Board shifted the tiger from the veterinary clinic to the rescue centre, which is set up in the abandoned zoo in Islamabad.

At the Islamabad Rescue Centre, the cub was named ‘Babu’ and two staff members, Anila and Sana, were entrusted with its care.

According to the veterinary doctors, Babu’s bones were not only weak but his growth was very slow and the only solution was an operation.

According to doctors, there is no zoo in the federal capital, while the innocent animal cannot be left in the wild due to its health complications.

While it was not possible for Islamabad Wildlife Management Board to keep Babu, which is mainly due to lack of resources.

On Babu’s arrival in South Africa, Cape Town resident Molly O’Hegan Ward expressed her joy on Second Chance Wildlife’s Facebook page, writing: ‘May this beautiful lion always be found in the ethical sanctuary of Isondale Big Cat and Predator Sanctuary. Have a wonderful atmosphere.

‘We are very happy that he has arrived here safe and sound after so many months of waiting. Thanks to all the people in Pakistan and here in South Africa who worked so hard to make this possible.’

Facebook user Anne Mering said: ‘Welcome little man. You have arrived at the perfect forever home. Your neighbor Amber may be upset at first, but she’ll soon grow to love you.’

Another woman, Debbie, expressed her delight, writing: ‘Oh baby! You’ll be delighted at Isondale Big Cat and Predator Sanctuary, where you’ll be truly cared for in a beautiful and safe environment you’ll call home.

‘Thanks to all involved in bringing Babu to a remarkable place he can call home.’
