Benfica vs. Torreense: A Futsal Masterclass
Match Overview
In a red-hot Fidelidade Pavilion, with a packed crowd of 1611 fans, the Benfica futsal team put on a stunning display against Torreense, clinching a resounding 7-2 victory on November 1st. This match was part of the fourth round of the Liga Placard, and oh boy, they did not disappoint! From the first whistle, it was clear the Eagles had their eyes on the prize.
First Half Madness
Benfica came flying out of the gates, eager to settle the score early. Goals began to rain down like it was a promotional event with ‘Buy One, Get One Free’—for goals! Alligator opened the scoring at the 8-minute mark after intercepting a poorly-timed pass from Cristiano, sending the ball into the back of the net. It didn’t take long for Higor to join the party, finishing off a slick team move just a minute later, making it 2-0. The fans could barely sit down!
And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, Alligator struck again at 20′, finishing with a beautifully placed crossed shot that had the Torreense goalie questioning if he’d accidentally registered for a shooting gallery instead of a futsal match! Benfica went into halftime with a comfortable 3-0 lead.
Second Half: The Rollercoaster Continues
After the break, Torreense tried to mount a comeback, and Nicolas made it momentarily interesting with a counterattack that reduced the deficit to 3-1. But then came the game-changing moment: Romada was sent off after accumulating yellow cards, which made Torreense feel like they were trying to climb Everest with flip-flops on.
With a player advantage, Benfica unleashed an artful assault on the Torreense defense. Just minutes later, Diego Nunes got in on the action, scoring two goals within three minutes—first a clean shot at 26′ making it 4-1 and another at 29′, cheekily slotting it through Cristiano’s legs for 5-1! Honestly, if this were a school exam, Torreense would’ve been getting an F for defense!
Though Gustavo Rodrigues pulled one back for Torreense at 32′, Benfica responded with the poise of seasoned experts. Goals from Chishkala at 34′ and Lúcio Rocha at 38′ wrapped up the night at a staggering 7-2. It was like watching a magician perform—and every time the rabbit came out of the hat, it was a goal!
Coach’s Take
Cassiano Klein, Benfica’s coach, was pleased, stating, “A consistent performance by the team, where the favorable result made our life easier,” which is coach-speak for, “We smashed it and had a jolly good time doing it!” With four wins from four games, the Eagles are soaring high, but Klein wisely reminded everyone that it’s a long competition. They’ll need to keep that momentum going into their next match on November 9th against AD Fundão.
