Benefit or loss of six Pakistani films together on Eid?

Pakistani cinema has been suffering since the ban on Bollywood films in 2019, but the global epidemic of Corona seems to have changed its destiny.

Cinemas reopened in late 2021, but the early part of 2022 didn’t turn out too well for movies. The unprecedented success of ‘The Legend of Maula Jat’ in October 2022 lit a candle of hope in the hearts of filmmakers, but on Eid-ul-Fitr 2023, this flame also dimmed.

Now Eid-ul-Azha is an important occasion, filmmakers in Pakistan and India start the production of films for this occasion long in advance, then examine whether there is any light of hope burning in the deep darkness.

This year, on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha, six Pakistani Urdu films are being screened in Pakistan.

In view of the limited number of cinemas in Pakistan, this number is very high, which is feared to be a loss rather than a benefit, because from Friday, June 30, a big Hollywood movie ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’ will also grace the cinemas across Pakistan. will become In such a situation, the number of screens for Pakistani films will further decrease.

Below we are putting together an outline of these six films so that you can decide which films you would like to watch this Eid.

‘Your My Stories’

It is not a single film but a combination of three films. The collection consists of three unrelated films, with different writers, directors and actors.

A brief introduction to these three is in order;

  • ‘(Sa) Jin Palace’

Nabeel Qureshi’s film is a ‘horror comedy’ in which he has spoken in his own light towards a social issue. Hara and Mani will be seen together on the cinema screen for the first time in this film. Although Mani has done many films, this is Hara’s first film. ‘Jin Mahal’ is written by Ali Abbas Naqvi and Basit Naqvi. The film is made in a very coherent manner and will give you a full chance to laugh and tear your eyes.

  • ‘dandruff’

The film is Marina Khan’s directorial debut and in her signature style revolves around marriage and the interesting issues surrounding it. Shehryar Manwar, Ramsha Khan are in the lead roles while Babar Ali and Laila Wasti are the supporting actors.

Filled with light jokes in the style of Marina Khan, this film conveys the best message of love and self-sacrifice. It also has two songs that entertain the viewers.

  • ‘one hundred and twenty-third’

Directed by Nadeem Baig and penned by Khalilur Rehman Qamar, the main characters of this story are Mehwish Hayat and Wahaj Ali, while Zahid Ahmed and Amna Ilyas also played important roles. Every sentence of this immersive story that unfolds during a rail journey is significant and touching in meaning. This movie has everything that is expected from a powerful cinema.

Let us remind our readers that this is not the first time that multiple stories have been combined in one film. 50 years ago there was a film ‘Chand Sooraj’ in which Nadeem and Waheed Murad acted but this experiment was not successful at that time.

The current film is an important experiment of Pakistani cinema, which if successful, many filmmakers may start paying attention to it.

This film is being given maximum space in cinemas on Eid which is a proof that cinema houses are also expecting this film.

‘Allah Yar and the Hundred Flowers of God’

This film is quite significant on this Eid as it is the first 3D feature film in the history of Pakistan along with being animated which is a major milestone in the history of Pakistani cinema.

It is a sequel to the 2018 film ‘Allah Yaar, The Legend of Markhor’ which was highly appreciated by the fans. This movie is written, directed and produced by Uzair Zaheer Khan and it has actors like Ali Zafar, Humayun Saeed, Bushra Ansari, Iqra Aziz, Nadia Jameel, Azfar Jafari and Anam Zaidi as voice actors.

The subject of this film is a boy named Allah Yar who travels to another world to save his father. Fans of animated movies are eagerly waiting for this movie.

The film is getting almost the same number of shows as ‘Teri Meri Kani’ and theaters are expecting a lot more from it.

‘Baby Lashes’

It seems very strange to write the name of this film in Urdu but according to the writer, director Isa Khan, this film is created for a completely different audience. Isa Khan has acted before and has done some commercials as well. The story of the film is about a young man who is dumped by his girlfriend and now he is frantically using every trick to get her back.

The film was in the making for many years and when it started, Shahruz and Saira were married, later their relationship ended.

Isa Khan says that this film is based on real situations and events, from the trailer the film seems to be a good production. Saira Yusuf and Shahroz Sabzwari are in the main cast of the film. Apart from them, actresses Shahzain Rahat, Aamir Qureshi, Aadi Amjad, Sabina Syed, Adnan Jafar, Laila Wasti and Mani are included.

‘VIP’

This is the story of a common man who is made the mayor of the city by the powerful people for their own benefit to make him a toy in their hands but then he turns against them.

Zak is starting his career through this film while this is Nimra Shahid’s second film.

Through this film, Rana Kamran has entered the world of directing, who has previously done cinematography of many successful films, so at least the film style will be seen in this film. Thanks to Rana Kamran, the supporting actors of this film include Ehtishamuddin, Salim Meraj, Saifi Hasan, Irfan Motiwala and Akbarul Islam.

But since the lead role is being played by unknown actors, this aspect hinders the film from gaining much attention, however cinema houses have given this film more shows than Madari and Apar.

‘Orbital’

This film is not made under any big production house. It is a joint effort of several budding filmmakers, made with very limited resources and a low budget.

The story of the film is being described as a political thriller where a young man gets involved in a negative business to avenge his father’s death.

The story of this film has been written by Siraj Al-Salkeen and he has also given the directions himself. Other actors of the film include Hammad Siddique, Aamir Naqvi and Paras Masroor.

Madari has not been able to get much space in cinemas and has only had two or three shows in various cinemas.

‘Across’

Arpar could have come last in this list. The release of the film was announced just two weeks before Eid-ul-Azha.

The special thing about this film is that this is the first film of film star Muammar Rana’s daughter Raina, while Muammar Rana himself is playing the role of an Indian Punjabi Sikh in this film.

Other actors of the film include Shamal Khan, Iram Akhtar, Ahmed Hasan, Palusha Khan and writer Mashhood Qadri.

Salim Dad has directed the film. The cinema is not giving any special importance to this film and most of the cinemas have only single shows of it.
