En the presence of local authorities, Leila Benali, Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, conducted a visit to the main energy infrastructures available to the city of Mohammedia on Wednesday January 4, 2023.
Following the incident that occurred on December 22, 2022, which caused no casualties, and only some material damage, Leila Benali wanted to intervene on the ground to assess the situation of energy installations, the volume of stocks of petroleum products as well as safety and environmental conditions.
It should be remembered that the city of Mohammedia has many energy infrastructures such as hydrocarbon and LPG storage depots, and that the port of Mohammedia concentrates a significant part of the transport and storage activities of liquid and gaseous petroleum products.
Leila Benali, accompanied by a large delegation from her ministry, visited the port of Mohammedia, the Community Storage Company (CEC), the liquefied petroleum gas filling centers and the Moroccan Storage Company (SOMAS) and met with the main managers on the prevention plans and the measures put in place to reduce the risk of incidents. During these meetings, the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development insisted on the training of personnel, the promotion of technologies to strengthen the security and information of citizens living nearby.
Concluding her visit, Leila Benali said: “Mohamedia is the first step in a series of visits that will be scheduled to other energy installation sites and that prevention and compliance with safety rules to ensure the protection of personnel, local residents and all citizens, are fundamental elements for better management of the risks associated with these installations”.
