A product of York City’s youth academy, Godfrey made his professional debut for his hometown club while still a teenager. He joined Norwich City in 2016, initially as an academy player, and gained valuable experience on loan at Shrewsbury Town. Archyde: You’ve just come from Atalanta in serie A, where you spent a short time. what made you decide to return to England and join Ipswich on loan?
Ben Godfrey: It was a combination of factors. I’ve always loved playing in England, and the Premier League is where I’ve built most of my career.When the possibility to join ipswich came up, it felt like the right move.I had some great conversations with the manager,Kieran McKenna,and his vision for the club really resonated with me. I’ve watched a few of their games this season, and you can see the team is full of energy and determination. I want to be part of that.
Archyde: You mentioned not playing as much as you’d have liked this season. How crucial is it for you to get regular game time now?
ben Godfrey: It’s massive. As a player, you want to be out there on the pitch, contributing to the team.I’ve been working hard to stay fit and sharp, and I feel ready to make an impact. I’m here to help Ipswich achieve their goals, and I’m looking forward to showing what I can do.

Archyde: Looking back at your career,you’ve come a long way as your debut at York City. What’s been the highlight so far?
Ben Godfrey: there have been a few! Making my professional debut for York City was special as it’s my hometown club. Winning the championship with Norwich in 2019 was another big moment. But I think the biggest highlight has been the opportunity to play in the Premier League and test myself against some of the best players in the world.
Archyde: what message would you like to send to the Ipswich fans who are excited to see you in action?

Ben Godfrey: I think my versatility and experience can be valuable. I’m here to bring stability, leadership, and a bit of grit to the backline.It’s about working hard, staying organized, and making sure we’re tough to break down.
