Belly of the Beast: a dive into the cocktail world

2023-12-22 08:44:17

We recently visited Belly of the Beast, a new cocktail bar located on the Singel in Amsterdam. Founded by Tess Posthumus, bartender and owner of Flying Dutchmen Cocktails & Dutch Courage, and Joeri Salet, owner of Supper and Bar Rouge. As soon as we stepped inside, it felt like we were entering a mysterious ship. In addition to the decor, the cocktails and bites also fit in perfectly with the undersea theme of Belly of the Beast. We will tell you more regarding it!

Various selection of cocktails

Belly of the Beast offers an extensive range of cocktails & bites, of which we tried a selection. The cocktails were expertly made in the open bar by the cocktail shakers, which is very nice to see. We chose “Kraken’s Elixir”, which was nice and spicy with St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur and a touch of London Essence White Peach & Jasmine Soda. We also chose “Siren’s call” with Koch Elemental Mezcal, peach aperitif and hints of lemon and vanilla. Our ultimate favorite was the “Submerged Aye-Aye” with Hendrick’s Gin, Bandung Pandan Liqueur, herbs, lemon and a foam layer – super tasty! Each cocktail comes in a unique glass with beautiful decoration that once more ties in with the undersea theme of Belly of the Beast.

Tasty matching bites

In the meantime, we also discovered the treasure chest of flavors of the bites on the menu. Upon entering Belly of the Beast you immediately spot the grill where various “Beasty Boys” are made, a kind of hamburger buns but with a twist. We had the “Beasty Boy” with Cajun shrimp and Mezcal aioli and loved it. We also had super crispy sweet potato fries with Hennessy teriyaki sauce – served in a matching treasure chest. We finished with fresh Buratta on beetroot with pumpkin seeds and balsamic vinegar.

At Belly of the Beast you will feel like you are in a hidden underwater world! The theme of the bar has been carried through to the smallest details, from the mysterious decor to the perfectly matching cocktails and delicious bites. Even the toilets are decorated with shell-shaped sweets! The experience is great: whether you like cocktails, are looking for a nice atmosphere or just want to eat delicious food, Belly of the Beast is the place for you.
