A joint style exercise, the new BR 03-94 BLACKTRACK chronograph from Bell & Ross is perfectly similar to the new Blacktrack BT-06 motorcycle co-imagined by designer Sacha Lakic and Bell & Ross

More than a simple collaboration, the extension of a unique machine towards the new Bell & Ross instrument watch. Performance is dressed in an ultra graphic fairing.

For its new instrument watch, Bell & Ross returns to its love of motorcycles and continues its exploration of dynamic forms. Inspired by the avant-garde lines of stealth planes, the new BR 03-94 BLACKTRACK chronograph watch goes perfectly with the Blacktrack BT-06 motorcycle, created jointly by Sacha Lakic and the watch brand’s designers.

Do you know Sacha Lakic?

Some creators are gifted. Automotive and industrial design, interior style, architecture, furniture, or even bicycles and scooters: nothing slows down Sacha Lakic’s inspiration. His talent is expressed in multiple creative territories such as furniture design with in particular the Bubble sofa, an iconic piece from Roche Bobois, urban furniture with Stay Concrete, or even designer furniture for dogs and cats for the Bogarel brand that he co-founded.

Speed and movement, however, remain at the heart of his work. Responsible for the style of the Venturi brand’s exceptional electric vehicles, Sacha Lakic has been rewarded several times for his daring creations. He was at the origin of several extraordinary motorcycles, notably for the French brand Voxan, before creating his own brand in 2016: Blacktrack.

“The goal is to create functional and passionate products that give pleasure and emotion to their owners. Blacktrack creates this rare feeling which emanates from an exceptional meeting between performance and shapes, colors and a distinctive design” says the designer. An approach which is manifested directly in its café racers or more recently with the launch of a range of lifestyle accessories.

Bell & Ross and the passion for exceptional motorcycles

The intrinsic links between Bell & Ross and aeronautics are no mystery. But fans of the brand are also aware of its forays into the world of motorcycles for more than 10 years. An exciting adventure, combining design, technique and performance, whose beginnings date back to 2011, when Bell & Ross joined forces with Shaw Harley Davidson to create a unique motorcycle, the Nascafe Racer Bell & Ross. Among its remarkable features, it is equipped with a special BR 01 Carbon watch, inserted in the central console, like an on-board instrument. In 2014, the spectacular B-Rocket allowed Bell & Ross to pay a creative tribute to the golden age of two-wheel speed records. This concept bike, inspired by the first jet planes designed in the USA, was created with engineers from Shaw Harley-Davidson. The B-Rocket directly inspired Bruno Belamich, creative director of Bell & Ross, to create two instrument watches: the BR 01 chronograph and its little sister the BR 03 B-Rocket. In 2023, the BR 03-94 BLACKTRACK opens a new chapter in this fascinating and daring saga. At the beginning of the reflection, the fairing of a motorcycle responding to the facets of stealth planes is at the heart of their project with the desire to offer a machine with flat and angular surfaces.

An exclusive and stealthy watch and chronograph

Once once more, the round and the square intertwine in a surprising way with the new BR 03-94 BLACKTRACK chronograph, whose 42 mm case, water-resistant to 100 meters, is in matte black ceramic. Its appearance still takes on aeronautical references. This source of inspiration guided the work of the designers, including for the design of the Blacktrack BT-06 motorcycle, whose treatment of faceted volumes directly refers to the technical design of stealth aircraft. Bikers will immediately notice the specific strap, in black calfskin, hemmed with a red edge, and lined with a high-strength technical material. It closes with a black PVD-finished steel pin buckle. Its quilting refers directly to the covering of the motorcycle saddle and the rider’s suit.

A control station on the wrist

Innovative and iconoclastic, the dial of the new BR 03-94 BLACKTRACK appears like a dashboard. If Bell & Ross is known for transferring the precision of cockpit instruments to the wrist, the counters of this chronograph adopt, for the first time, the very specific design of dials placed on the handlebars of a motorcycle. The complicity with the motorcycle’s instrumentation is obvious. Red, like on a gauge, the 30-minute chronograph totalizer hand is immediately readable. A subtle detail is visible on the dial: the superposition of the imbalance of the chronograph seconds hand with that of the minutes hand redraws the “B” of Blacktrack. The faceting work is also found on the bezel which has an octagonal shape seen from above. Thanks to a subtle contrasting graphic play between gray and black, particularly for the numbers, all the information is present and readable on this dial which fully assumes its dark tones and which has an openwork cooling grid. The seconds and minutes hands feature the Blacktrack logo together. In addition, the typography of the numbers at the flange and indexes is carefully worked. The indexes benefit from a Super-LumiNova® treatment, as do the skeletonized hands filled with this luminescent material. Please note, the BR 03-94 BLACKTRACK chronograph can be inserted in the center of the motorcycle console, allowing the instrument watch to be moved from the wrist to the dashboard. The symbiosis between the two machines is complete.

Performance at the heart of collaboration

Like all Bell & Ross watches, the BR 03-94 BLACKTRACK is not satisfied with an attractive aesthetic execution. It is, above all, an instrument watch designed to be precise, readable, functional and reliable. Concern for performance and reliability is at the center of this collaboration. The engine has therefore been taken care of, as it should be. At the heart of this sporty contemporary timepiece is the BR-CAL.301 self-winding mechanical movement. A caliber with sophisticated finishes, having a 42-hour power reserve, and allowing the display of hours, minutes, seconds and date, in addition to chronograph functions. It perfectly meets the performance of the 1,200 cc twin-cylinder powering the Blacktrack motorcycle. Efficiency rhymes with personality.
