Belinda Bencic, the last remaining Swiss player at Wimbledon, faces a high hurdle on Sunday. In the round of 16, the 26-year-old from Eastern Switzerland meets world number 1 Iga Swiatek on Center Court (around 5 p.m.).
The Pole won the last encounter between the two. Two years ago at the US Open, however, the number 14 seeded Olympic champion triumphed in the only meeting so far at a major tournament. It would be Bencic’s first time reaching the quarterfinals at Wimbledon.
Bencic is confident in the game. “I like this challenge. I’m the one who can go all out. If I lose, nothing happens, if I win, it’s unbelievable,” she says Interview with SRF. Rain is forecast once more in London on Sunday, but that doesn’t worry the 26-year-old – quite the opposite: “If the roof were closed, that would be great for me.”
