The Inami Insurance Committee validated new measures on Monday in order to expand over the course of next year the number of patients who can benefit from reimbursement for their optical care, indicate the socialist mutual fund Solidaris as well as the Christian Mutuality (MC) in a separate press release. The information was confirmed by the office of the Minister of Health.
A budget of 3.3 million euros has in fact been released in order to reduce the diopter threshold from 7 to 6 for the reimbursement of lenses and glasses for patients aged between 18 and 65. Concretely, this implies for this group a reimbursement of 79 to 369.24 euros per lens after a visit to an approved optician, regardless of the type of lenses. Single vision lenses as well as bifocal, trifocal or progressive lenses will be reimbursed for those with -6 vision. The new rates apply to all ages. “This will make a difference for many Belgians“, rejoices Claude Rolin, president of the Christian Mutuality. “We are happy that glasses and contacts are becoming more affordable for more peoples”, concludes the person concerned.
