News that will please many people, because glasses have become “trendy”. Indeed, with the new way of life and the time spent in front of screens, more and more people suffer from vision problems. In particular, it is estimated that by 2050, twice as many people will suffer from myopia worldwide.

This new measure taken by INAMI will concern all Belgians aged 18 to 65. A great step forward for the National Union of Socialist Mutual Funds. “We are obviously delighted to be able to cover more people. Now, we are calling for continued efforts: we know that from 2 diopters, it is a medical necessity, but we are still at a threshold of 6, so there are still a huge number of people today who do not have don’t have the financial means to pay for glasses“, reacts Joachim Wathelet, expert for the optical care commission.

Concretely, the new measure represents a reimbursement of 79 to 369.24 euros per glass, regardless of the type of glass. A total budget of 5.3 million euros has been released and this change will take place from January 1, 2024.
