L’Echo wrote on Friday that Engie no longer claims 580 million euros from the Belgian state, but 154 million euros to cover the additional costs caused by the delay in the demolition of Doel 4 and Tihange 3.

Since February, the Nuclear Supply Committee (CPN) has been working on the very complex issue of the additional costs of dismantling nuclear power plants caused by the expansion of two reactors by Engie. She completed her report at the end of June. Its results were much lower than Engie’s assessment.

CPN estimated the “diseconomies” of scale to be €154 million (in 2023 euros), a conclusion that Engie accepted. “In fact, we have decided not to appeal the opinion of the Nepal Communist Party,” This was confirmed by the organization’s spokesman in Belgium, Olivier Desclée.

In Electrabel’s annual accounts for 2023, we find that the company estimates this additional cost at between 500 and 600 million euros (total dismantling costs are 8.4 billion euros), more precisely at 580 million euros.
