The Chamber approved Thursday in plenary session Minister Tinne Van der Straeten’s bill which confirms the five royal decrees which followed the introduction of an excise duty on energy bills. This mechanism replaces the federal surcharges which weighed on electricity bills: offshore contribution, strategic reserve, financing of the CRM and the social tariff.
Implemented just at the start of the energy crisis, this reform made it possible to freeze the federal share of the energy bill for Belgian citizens and businesses. This is a first concrete application of the energy standard.
Excise duties are much more easily controllable than the surcharges of the time and are in line with the European directive on energy taxation, by which exemptions were introduced for companies with high energy consumption, as in countries neighbors.
The Chamber also adopted a bill which updates the provisions concerning the governance of the network manager Elia and aligns them with recent developments at the Belgian and European levels, in particular the revision of the European directive on energy markets. electricity (EMD) and the Code of Companies and Associations.
