Belgium’s Candidacy for Future European Combat Aircraft Development

Although having recently purchased the American F-35, Belgium wishes to participate in the development of the future European combat “plane” (Scaf), with France, Germany and Spain. The formalization of his candidacy should be made next week, at the Bourget air show.

Scoffee An acronym which we will have to get used to because it will last for at least twenty years, namely the time necessary for the development of the “(European) air combat system of the future” (Scaf, therefore). On the move: France, Germany, Spain… and now, perhaps, Belgium, as the announcement should be made officially next week at the Bourget air show (Paris).

A preliminary and essential step was taken this Friday in the Council of Ministers, at the end of which Belgium decided to apply to join this program aimed at developing, by 2040, not only an aircraft , but also a combat “system” (including aircraft, drones, various weapons and cybersecurity systems, among others).
