Belgium Weather Forecast: Snowfall Alert and Temperature Update for Monday

2023-11-26 08:12:00

The weather will be gloomy on Sunday morning south of the Sambre et Meuse furrow, with low clouds, mist or fog, while the sky will be rather changeable elsewhere, indicates the Royal Meteorological Institute (IRM) at dawn. The latter still forecasts a few residual showers, which might also take on a wintry character in the upper Ardennes.

In the followingnoon, the tendency for showers will be confined to the northeast of the country. Elsewhere, the weather will become generally dry but with fairly high and medium clouds. The maximums will be between 1 or 2°C in Hautes Fagnes and 8 or 9°C on the Coast.

During the night from Sunday to Monday, the sky will gradually become cloudy and precipitation will fall from the west. These will take the form of rain in lower and middle Belgium, and slush or snow in the Ardennes at the end of the night above 300-400 m. The minimums will be between -1 or 0°C on the heights of the Ardennes and 4 or 5°C on the coast.

On Monday, a disturbance will cross our country from west to east. The sky will be very cloudy to overcast with periods of rain in lower and middle Belgium, and (melting) snow in upper Belgium which will turn temporarily into rain in the followingnoon. An accumulation of 5 to 10 cm of fresh snow may therefore initially form in the Haute Ardennes. The maximums will be between 0 and 3°C in the Ardennes, between 5 and 8°C in the center and up to 9°C in the west of the country.

Due to this snowfall in the Ardennes, the IRM issued a new yellow alert on Sunday for slippery conditions in the provinces of Liège and Luxembourg. It will come into force on Monday at 4:00 a.m. and end at 10:00 p.m.
