Twenty-nine other passengers suffered minor injuries. The bus, which was carrying a total of 54 people, veered off course, overturned and then came to rest on its roof, police said.
According to the German press agency DPA, the travelers came from Poland, Ukraine, Belarus and Belgium, among others. The vice-president of the travel agency concerned, contacted by journalists from Schwarzwälder Bote, was able to indicate that the coach had left with two drivers from Warsaw and was heading for Belgium.
For some unknown reason, the bus veered off course while on the freeway before skidding and flipping onto its roof. Cranes are used in particular to extract the vehicle. Several seriously injured were taken to hospital, it is not yet known whether they are Belgian passengers. The other travelers were taken to an assembly point where they were taken care of.
