Belgian Women’s Sevens Seek LA Glory in 2025 Challenger Series

Belgian Women’s Sevens Eye Los Angeles in 2025

The road to Los Angeles is open for the Belgian women’s rugby sevens team, as World Rugby has officially confirmed the format for the HSBC Sevens Challenger Series 2025. The familiar three-round competition will remain unchanged, offering the BelSevens a clear path to potentially qualify for the coveted Los Angeles tournament.

The Challenger Series culminates in a high-stakes showdown in “the City of Angels” on May 3 and 4. This promotion and relegation tournament pits the top four teams from the Challenger Series against the bottom four teams from the HSBC Sevens Series. The eight teams will battle it out for four coveted spots in the next edition of the prestigious series, previously known as the World Series.

The BelSevens face a demanding schedule in their bid to reach Los Angeles. They’ll need a top-four finish at the end of the three qualifying rounds to seal their place in California.

The first two rounds will take place in Cape Town, South Africa, on March 1 and 2, followed by a highly anticipated stop in the South African city once again from March 7 to 8. Finally, Krakow, Poland will host the conclusive third round on April 11 and 12.

The BelSevens will be taking on a strong field, primed for battle in the Challenger Series. Joining Belgium, Argentina, Colombia, the Czech Republic, Hong Kong, Kenya, Mexico, Thailand, Poland, South Africa and Uganda are already confirmed participants.

Looking back, the BelSevens demonstrated their potential in the 2024 Challenger Series. They achieved third-place finishes in Dubai, Montevideo, and Krakow, only to be halted by China in the final tournament in Madrid.

The men’s Belgian sevens team will unfortunately miss out on participating in the Challenger Series for the second consecutive year.
