About six out of ten Belgians will go on vacation this summer, according to a survey by the club dedicated to VAB mobility carried out on Wednesday with more than 2,000 Belgians. Almost one in three respondents (27%) will spend their holidays in Belgium.
Nearly half of travelers (42%) will depart more than once this year. It is mainly young people aged between 18 and 24 who plan to go on vacation: 72% of them say they want to travel.
Around one in three people want to spend less money than last year, saving mainly on Horeca and excursions, and 12% of travelers say they will spend more. For 37% of them, the travel budget will not change. Finally, 21% of travelers have not yet set their budget.
Sweden launches climate-smart vacation
For Belgians who go abroad, eight out of ten choose to stay in Europe. France (42%) is the top travel destination, ahead of Spain (24%) and Italy (16%). Only 15% intend to travel outside the European continent and around four out of ten of them opt for a trip to Africa.
For those who stay in Belgium, the Coast is the preferred destination for 62% of respondents and around one in three opt for the Ardennes.
At 53%, July is the most popular month for going on vacation, although many people over the age of 65 choose to travel outside of school holidays due to crowds and prices.
In addition, 10% of respondents say they travel alone. Almost one in five Belgians (19%) chooses to travel with friends and, among young people, this rate rises to 37%.
