Belgians who were on vacation in Egypt experienced a big mishap on Monday. While they were to take off at 8 p.m. from Hurghada to land in Brussels around 12:50 a.m., the airline TUI told them that their plane would remain grounded due to a technical problem, write our colleagues from HLN.
The tourists therefore spent the night at the hotel and finally had to take the plane on Tuesday, around 6 p.m. Except it didn’t go as planned at all. “Around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday evening, the group of passengers was still sitting at the airport without any information. Ashamed ! We feel abandoned,” complains Tom.
It was only around 9:45 p.m. that the Belgians received an SMS from TUI fly, which told them that their flight would be postponed once more… until Wednesday 2 p.m. The announcement created tension at the airport, with travelers turning once morest staff: “Crying children, crying mothers… Many passengers are refusing to re-enter the same plane they’ve worked on for hours. Why wouldn’t TUI just put us on another flight? asks the passenger.
Piet Demeyere, spokesperson for TUI, confirms the fault on the device. He explains that “a technician was specially airlifted from Belgium” and adds that a crisis meeting was organized on Tuesday evening regarding the dissatisfaction of their customers.
