Belgian solidarity breaks records: more than 8,000 reception places made available in just 48 hours for Ukrainians

499 of the 581 Belgian municipalities have already responded positively to the call of the Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration, Sammy Mahdi, to provide temporary shelter to Ukrainians fleeing the war.

The appeal to local authorities and citizens was launched Monday evening via the various provincial governors and on social media via the hashtag #PlaceDispo. Less than 48 hours following the call, a total of 8,169 places have already been made available to refugees. These are places offered by local authorities as well as by the citizens themselves.
