Marc Ysaye will be a candidate both in the June elections and in the municipal elections in October, added Mr. Bouchez, without specifying the list on which he will appear. The disclosure of the lists will take place from Sunday, during the MR’s tour of wishes, province by province. Mr. Ysaye said he lived in Corbais, in the commune of Mont-Saint-Guibert (Walloon Brabant).

Within the MR, Mr. Ysaye will be “a referent on the cultural level”, but also on “the evolution of society and secularism”.

“In my life, I wanted to do three things. Music and radio, I did both. I wanted to do political science and be a diplomat and I didn’t do it. Machiavelli walked very, very quickly. It was studies or Machiavelli and I chose Machiavelli,” confided Marc Ysaye.

In his eyes, “we are at a real important societal turning point,” he said, saying he was thinking of his six grandchildren. “We absolutely must pay attention to all the abuses we are witnessing today,” said Marc Ysaye, then citing pell-mell “inclusive writing”, the “dictatorship of minorities”, “wokism” or even “ cancel culture”.

At the service of the party

Aged 70, Marc Ysaye was a radio presenter for 41 years, including 40 at RTBF. On the public service, he was director of Radio 21 before launching Classic 21 in 2004, keeping his show devoted to rock classics scheduled on Sunday mornings. Last year, he joined the private radio station Bel RTL. He is still a member of the Machiavelli group, which still performs on stage.

Marc Ysaye indicated that he was putting himself at the service of the party, in a statement confirmed by Mr. Bouchez, assuring that he had not requested any particular place within the party or on a list.

Seconded from RTBF

“I have always voted liberal,” confided Marc Ysaye. “What attracted me to this party is that what is said, written, thought, reflected completely corresponds to me. Every time I take a position, I think exactly the same thing,” he added, claiming to be “someone deeply anchored on the right.

“I have immense respect for RTBF,” he once more assured, when asked regarding the party’s positioning regarding the public service media. But “I detached myself from the editorial line of information.”
